Thranritter
Hi there, I have really bad problems no matter what version I try to run under my XP sys. The Gold version works, except for the fact that it doesn't work with xcomutil93 for some reason, and I definitely want to use it for a change. And I can't figure out a way to turn the annoying music off. The DOS version runs fine with xcomutil93, but it doesn't have sound (it does have music tho). VDMS doesn't help that either, or I'm just too dumb to figure out how to use it properly. I appreciate any help on how to make one of the versions work the way I want. If the specs I provided are insufficient, I'll try to complete them on request. Regards,Thranritter
Cpl. Facehugger
Umm, do you have the latest version of xcom util? If so, try to find an older verision, if not, find the latest. Annoying music? You mean the stuff in the game?
j'ordos
xcomutil93 IS the latest version, but at the bottom of stjones page, there is a beta version available, try that one. As for the music : in the gold version you can delete the .mid files, or replace them with others. Or adjust the volume in windows.
Thranritter
According to Stjones' HP 9.3 is the latest version, and it doesn't provide an older one. And yes, I mean the midi sound, I find it quite annoying with time. And the Gold version doesn't have a setup.exe where I could turn it off, but muting midis as a whole might work. Edit: j'ordos, the beta generates the same error like 9.30: I'm asked if I want to apply that f0dder thingy, but no matter what I answer, after that question the DOS windows shuts itself. j'ordos
Actually, that's what it always does . Normally when you run xcusetup again it asks the other settings (improved starting base, improved tanks, ...Then you can start xcom using 'runxcom.bat'
Thranritter
Heh. My bad. Well, anyway, on second start it still does nothing. Nothing useful that is. The PC beeps, and it gives the following text: "XCOMUTIL Setup for... XcomUtil 9.31 for XCOM/UFO by Scott T. Jones blabla... XCOMWIN 1.0 version of game detectedRead failure on geoscape.exe" At which point the setup ends. Probably because there is no geoscape.exe in my UFO root directory; it only contains musfix.dll, UFO.exe and UFO Defense.exe. Regards,Thranritter Edit: besides, when I run the xcusetup.bat for the DOS version of the game, it doesn't ask me about that f0dder thingy at all, but starts with asking me whether I want to have improved bases or not. j'ordos
It only asks f0dders loaders the first time you run xcusetup. Delete 'XCOM4WIN' and run xcusetup again. Normally it creates 'geoscape.exe' and 'tactical.exe' when running xcusetup, but I guess something went wrong there
fux0r666
I found an abandonware copy on the CDOS community website. The version I got was a patched version of UFO: Enemy Unknown called imy_xcomenemyunknown.zip and the xcom book in pdf format (I might have got that elsewhere). The game runs in perfect time using the patch.exe provided with it without use of programs such as vryslow or moslow. The sound works, and the only difficulty I have with it is that it seems to crash at random, albeit infrequently. Plenty of saving would get you past this difficulty with minimum 'smash monitor with baseball bat while cycling a half loaded revolver at your temple' factor. I have ftp software but I haven't quite figured it out. If anyone would like to get a copy from me directly, pm me and we'll set something up on MSNM or something. Thranritter
Yep, on first launch it asks about that f0dder thingy, on 2nd, see my last post. It does create tactical.exe and geoscape.exe on first launch though, but those files might just be fubared - see that error message I posted above. *sigh*Boy, that really sucks

Cpl. Facehugger
Yeah, but Micah, you want to forget that the apoc forums don't exist! And yeah stjones, it is okay because some of the forums are really obscure. Like this one actually.
stjones
This is to let everyone know that I just released XcomUtil 9.40. It corrects the problems people have been reporting over the last week or so. They were generally caused by a new TFTD package that used different file names. I have updated the beta package to include the necessary fixes and made it an official release. You can download it from my XcomUtil Homepage.
