Bump! :)

Well, those maps aren't even in the demo so they definitely don't exist. However, I'd suspect the "missing" urban maps were in the beta release and then removed for whatever reason (the map programmers had some problems early on with the maps and routes). They probably forgot to rename the urban files to take this into account. ^_^

No, but I'd pay good money for it! Byron (from XCommand) supposedly had a copy of the beta at one time, but he hasn't answered any of my emails. :(

Then again, if those maps were in the beta, Byron would almost certainly have them up at his site. Maybe it was an alpha or an internal testing release then. ;)

Perhaps he'd answer your paypal credits awarded him?

I never thought to put dummy files in to see if they'd be recognized anyway. In other words is XCOM hard-coded to ignore those file names or if their is no file present, rather than crashing, it just tries again.

Map files aren't hard-coded anywhere in the executable. And from what I remember from daishiva's site (before it started having problems), you can add new modules to the MAPS folder and the game will recognize them as valid and attempt to place it on the map no matter what (as long as they have the correct nomenclature). So if you add those missing urban files (either dummy or real) back in, the game will try and place them into the terrain. (You may need a valid associated ROUTES file too, but this hasn't been tested). At least, that's how I think it goes. ;)

Like I said before, I think adding files to the MAPS folder is fine as long as it follows the correct nomenclature. For example, the urban maps go up to 18. If you add a file to the MAPS directory named "URBAN19.MAP" the game should recognize it and attempt to spawn it when creating a battlescape map. I don't know if there is a upper-limit to how many modules can exist for each terrain-set though. The way TFTD and UFO are now, there is a max of only 21 map modules for each terrain-type (from XXXX00.MAP to XXXX20.MAP) so adding more than that may or may not screw up the game. It probably doesn't, but the fewer the better. ;)
