Hi everyone,

I took the liberty of creating a spreadsheet of sound assets.

The purpose of the spreadsheet is to track sound assets.
I took the previous text documents and created a spreadsheet of the line items.

The spreadsheet is created with open office, so everyone can read it.

Unfortunately, I dont have permissions to upload the file... (file extension permissions) Should the file be kept in SVN?

The file is dated, so the next version of it can be recognized by the newer date on it.

The spreadsheet listed each item and has the capacity record whether the sound bite is cataloged. (0= not cataloged, 1= cataloged) The spreadsheet then calculates the Percentage of sound assets completed. Modifications are welcome, just becareful to make sure the line items and such are proper, else the calculated percentage will not be correct.

Also, I included a column to specify the sound bite file name. I gave different sound bites names just to populate the spreadsheet and get the ball rolling.

I also made columns to record the length of sound bite in time and the file size. I figure the programmers would find that info helpful.

The spread sheet just has sound bites in it... I didnt include music.. but that can be easily included.

Enjoy!

Any posibility someone from the CTD to copy that to the documentation site?

Maybe you can upload it if you zip it or (possibly) change the extension to ".zip".

Alternatively, could you provide a link to the text version?

You can PM somebody so that he can post it :)

Actually, a spreadsheet would be really helpful (and thanks for doing that! =B), but I insist that we should focus here:
http://docs.projectx...usic_Asset_List
http://docs.projectx...ects_Asset_List <---

Much easier to change, to share, to add, we will be able to know at any moment our progress etc.

And, I'm still not sure how we should work with sound effects! Should we upload them straight into the server via FTP? And if yes, where? Also, there have been many posted sounds, especially menu beeps, who will choose them and how? (poll after testing them in the latest build)? :WTF:

Edit: Actually, the only problem with the wiki is that you should learn "programming" it, which actually took me ~20 minutes to "master". Actually, I've already forgot most stuff (I remember the ---heading--- stuff, but forgot about links)

Does the wiki let one easily create tables?
and can the tables calculate values?

I think a wiki is a good tool for some things... but not really suitable for data management in table form.

Why don't you post the spreadsheet here then and we see what we can do with it?
The forum should allow you to upload anything (withing a certain size), but if it doesn't let you, why don't you zip it?

I tried posting it earlier... I'll try zipping it next and send it out tonight.

Ok. I can the zip version of the file...

Again, its an OpenOffice spreadsheet.

Its suppose to be a catalog of sound assets... to help identify each sound asset needed to complete the project. :-)

Its just the first round... feel free to change everything...

I'll upload sounds I've collected probably tomorrow...

The sounds I have collected need to be voted on, too. :-)

Indeed, but we should also collect and vote all the sounds that have been uploaded until now :\

It does let you create tables (It's like saying Excel or OO's spreadsheet is easy or difficult, you just have to know how to use it), but I think you can't program it (and that's the most rational assumption, it would waste server CPU...)

Argh... I'm having a lot of difficulty with the .ods file. It appears there are no utilities to convert Open Office Calc documents into anything more basic (though there are easy ways to convert INTO Open Office formats)... Actually, there is an online conversion site (ooconvert or something), but I haven't been able to get it to work properly.

I don't exactly have the space to install Open Office at the moment; I guess I should do some cleaning. I'll continue my attempts to crack the odious format. :P

In the future (if possible), it'd be much easier if the document was saved in a more basic format (i.e. rich text, tab/space/comma delimited text, etc.).

Strange... I installed the latest stable release of OpenOffice (1.1.4), but when I open your attached Sound Asset Check List .ods file, there is no data- just an empty spreadsheet. :huh?:

I've tried opening it with OO and MSOffice, but it's an "unsupported format"... Would it be that hard to make a .xls file? :huh?:

If I recall correctly, OO can't create .xls files... But maybe OO can write to a more basic format, like delimited or formatted text?
