SleepyWu
Hi everybody! I found a lot of fan works here and decided to post my own based on the great game UFO Enemy Unknown. It's the Power Suit I've made in 3d editor. Maybe sometime I'll make a texture for this model, but now it is without it, only colored mesh. SleepyWu
Well, thanks for good words, I'm glad you enjoyed my work =)but some criticism will be good, too.It was hard for me to understand the appearence of a helmet, maybe someone has better ideas. Firstly, I thought that a man on the pic in UfoPaedia just turned his head for about 30-45' and this large circle is just a helmet's front window, but then I decided that this idea was wrong, and there're 2 windows: large and small (for every eye =). Maybe it's strange and looks funny...
[Blehm 98]
the helmet used in xcom was so bizarre looking that i don't think it'd be easy to make. Just don't bother trying to understand it
Zombie
Well, I think SleepyWu did an excellent job. If you take a look at the original powersuit, the helmet is pretty close: http://ufopaedia.xcomufo.com/images/powersuit.gif - Zombie
[Blehm 98]
oh don't worry, i think it looks fine, i'm just saying that it is tough to do so don't bother trying to figure out exactly why it looks that way edit: I guess i could say that yours looks skin tight, while the power suit picture looks... baggy i guess you could say Edited April 9, 2006 by Blehm

SleepyWu
Maybe if the model had a texture it would't look so bizarre. =)I think some day I'll re-model it, it was my second work (first was Piglet from Vinnie-the-Pooh and I encountered some problems when I tried to animate it. Somthing wrong with the mesh happened, when I binded it with biped (it's 3d max modifier), some ugly deformations appeared and I was dissapointed in my work...Now I decided to model something more primitive and static, like ufo medium scout. Moriarty
only "real" critcism that comes to my mind is the legs, or rather the thighs: they are too far apart. then again, that's already wrong in the original picture, so no blaming you for it (take a look at your own legs - when the legs are parallel to each other, there really isn't much space between them. now if you look at the power suit, the legs are probably centered in the suit's trousers - a human would have to break his pelvic bone to fit in there )

Firstly I made a simple figure of a man (biped default) and found this trouble between legs. I had to scale biped pelvis and some other parts (like neck) to fit the original picture. The original, imo, looks good, but has 'alien' proportions (and, maybe, different eye-size )My idea was to make some ingame-like pics, but in 3D. Maybe sometime I'll present them here.... PS: Why the number of my posts doesn't grow up...? Edited April 10, 2006 by SleepyWu

As the artwork senior, he might be able to suggest some items for you to try. The idea to join some develop team making ufo-like project seems nice to me, but I haven't enough time. Most of it dedicated to my work.... Maybe I'd like to create an old X-Com with the same combat system, the same story, but in 3D. In other words - a remake. The only change would be graphics.
