From the pics, it looks like a stripped-down Laser Squad Nemesis. Might be worth a shot for those of you with a Game Boy.

If you haven't already seen this, it might be of interest to you:

Now, I know this isn't exactly X-COM heaven, but if it's done well, then maybe FFTA, KoL and other tactical RPG fans will like it and the sequal will be up to par and perhaps (gasp!) a good game!

Iffy:

Cartoony <shudder> style, very probably no base building and/or research.

Spiffy:

Action points, destructable tarrain, RPG/skills side may not suck. May introduce X-COM to new generaition.

Edit: Found two previews:

By the way, I have yet to play any of the X-COM remakes or UFO: aftermath, so I don't know what they're like.

I just bought a new game boy SP (with the new screen) for travelling and buisness trips. I bought it primarily because of Fire Emblem, but then I noticed Rebelstar too. I've been playing it a little bit lately, and it really is x-com, just without the strategic part. The music is catchy, the controls are surprisingly easy to get used to, I love it! Also I think Rudy is hot. :P

oh yeah, and it was only $20 too. Pretty sweet.

Yes...the original X-com team first did Rebelstar..back in..ooo 86' I believe. There was another sequel out in about 89'. They then moved on and wanted to rework a few things, which created X-com!

Atleast this is the story from what I've read/heard.

I just saw this at the mall. Right away I told my friend "This looks just like X-Com except *****" (no offence to anyone here but thats what I said, I wouldnt use it on the forum normaly)

edit by azrael: doesn't matter whether you said it or not, no usage of such words in an offensive meaning in our forums.
