Project Ufo2k Forum Changes

Recommended Posts

Project Ufo2k needs some changes concerning administrative attention. This is for the benefit of the Ufo2k community.

Moderator Changes:

Change Reason: It's getting messy in there at times. I need some men that can do their job.

- Kick Twilight Owl

Reason(s): Inactive and no longer a primary developer.

- Kick Plasma

Reason(s): Inactive (MIA) and not a developer.

- Add Nachtwolf

Reason(s): Primary coding developer, ufo2k site administrator, and graphics developer. Essentially our new project leader.

- Add Hobbes

Reason(s): An asset player and concept developer.

- Add Sporb

Reason(s): Active graphics artist.

Forum Titles

Our moderators consist of Ufo2k developers, so I also request Ufo2k developer titles 'UFO2000 Staff' for these new moderators and myself. And since Nachtwolf is our new leader, it would be preferred for him to have a 'UFO2000 Staff: Leader' title.

Forum Changes:

Change Reason: Again, it's kind of messy in there. Need some organization.

- Remove the 'UFO2000' tag before sub forums. There is no purpose for this, just makes the extension ridiculously long.

- Add Bug Forum

- Rename 'Bugs, Comments, and Suggestions' forum to 'Suggestions'

- Rename 'Maps and Add-ons' forum to 'Add-ons'

- Add 'Add-ons' sub forums: 'Maps' 'Units' 'Weapons' 'Misc.'

- Rename 'Opponents Wanted, War Stories' to 'Lobby

- Add 'Lobby' sub forums: 'War Stories' 'Opponents Wanted'

- Add 'I'd Like to Help' sub forums: 'Programming', 'Art', 'Music & Sound', 'Misc.'

- Add hidden 'Trash' Forum. Only visible to Ufo2k moderators.

Thanks for the great post Kratos.

We indeed need some organization in the UFO2000 forums. It is a bit messy at the moment.

I second the choice of "Hobbes" and "Sporb" as moderators, however they should be notified and asked if they want the job.

I will do this myself and post their replies here.

Instead of "Bugs" forums, I think it should be "Bugs Discussion", since we already have Mantis for tracking itself.

So structure of UFO2000 forums should be :

Lobby

  • War Stories
  • Opponents Wanted

Add-ons

  • Map
  • Weapons
  • Units
  • Misc.

Bugs Discussion

Suggestions

I'd Like to Help

  • Programming
  • Art
  • Music & Sound
  • Misc.

Trash (hidden)

Thanks a lot for the time you give to this issue.

Thanks! :)

I have finished all the changes and additions that you requested. If I missed something, let me know, and if you want the forums reordered, I can do that, too.

Like Nachtwolf said, we would prefer in this order. The sub forums are alright as they stand.

Lobby

Add-ons

Bugs Discussion

Suggestions

I'd Like to Help

Trash (hidden)

And thanks again! I was becoming doubtful anybody would take some time out of their schedule to make this possible for us. :)

I agree too that there needs to be changes. I was thinking of resigning from mod status anyhow since I don't have much time for moderating. Anyhow, congrats to the new development leader Nachtwolf, to the official graphic artist Sporb, and to the concept developer hobbes. You guys will make a good team. ^_^

Guest Azrael
/me humbly suggests changing the name of the forums from "XCOMUFO & Xenocide" to just "XCOMUFO Forums" since XCOMUFO no longer hosts one single project rather now hosts more than four.

With 'UFO2000' tag removed, now it is hard to tell which topics from 'View New Posts' list are UFO2000 related and which are not (yes, that was the purpose of these tags and I specifically asked to add them earlier). Also with the addition of an extra level of subforums, it got a bit harder to navigate and find the needed information in my opinion. It is better to keep the number of subforums as low as possible as long as it is balanced with new posts addition activity. That's just 2 cents from a person who does not spend much time lurking here, the time needed to check what's going on has now increased a bit with the new forum layout, also the chances of missing important information are now higher.

Sorry for replying late on your post Serge.

The tags I thought were a waste. But apparently from some feedback I'm getting, they're easier on the eye to know if you're in a ufo2000 forum. I have to admit, having Xenocide next to us, it could get confusing. So let's fix this then. So all sub forums need to have a 'UFO2000' tag, right?

Concerning navigation, I'm not sure how it's complex to look around. I understand it feels different, but don't you think digging up topics is hard when you are browsing through a sub forum that has 3 types of topics? This is especially hard with bugs, suggestions, and add-ons. Maybe the lobby and I'd like to help forum was overdone. It just felt like those areas needed specific sub forums to give the user a little organization.

I find serge's post completely true about problematic navigation. He is right, it's harder to check on things without too much time searching for them.

I know this sounds like a pain in the donkey, but may an admin please revert back to what we use to have?

It looked like this (iirc):

UFO2000 Bugs, Comments, Suggestions

UFO2000 War Stories

UFO2000 Add-ons

UFO2000 I'd Like to Help
