We might want to add some new stuff to the X-net, not only the equiptment, but also other stuff. X-corps funding is made.

X-Corps Founding

The money needed for such a massive project as the one of Xenocide, is too large for a single government to initiate, and keep financially intact. Therefore, the political leaders behind the X-corps, have pledged the world to help us, in our fight against aliens. Most countries have agreed to found us with some of their money, but generally they do not consider us as Earths only hope. The broad opinion of the politicians is that the aliens ‘have come in peace’. They won’t listen to our arguments, but they have agreed that if the aliens have been found to have an unfriendly attitude against the citizen of Earth, and the X-corps have been effectively fighting off the aliens, then they will pay us. After all, the destruction of Earth might just lower their financial status by quite a bit.

This founding countries are placed into categories based upon their location, and a speaker from each of these categories meet and discuss about X-corps. The “Council of Founding Nations” as the group is called, will then tell X-corps of the cuntries' change in founding, and if they found our recent missions or other events satisfying. This will give each country a chance to cut down our payment, raise it, or maybe even stop funding the project.

Not only the CFN are interested in helping X-Corps, there are also private funding the project. Because we can’t allow the story of aliens out into the public, they are mostly hid as being collections for sick children, or the like. Bigger companies from Electronics to even Entertainment, have also been informed of the aliens, and have agreed to help us. Their money are highly effective in helping to fund the X-corps project.

How about adding films to the fluff quote??

"Complete simulation for the destructions of ALIENs 1, 2, 3," etc....

or

"Simulation of attack on hostile territory against overwhelming numbers - 'Starship Troopers'" :D

Sounds good, although I wish we could just tack on the original stuff, which sounded great on. I hate copyrights sometimes.

I think there should definitely be additional entries to the X-Net, which are not dependent to research. Cpt. Boxershorts has already worked out the XML system for dependencies regarding which entries are available based on what you have and what's been researched. We can politely ask how to include entries which are independent of other entries, but might be dependent on other game aspects.

For example, this entry might not be available until you receive your first monthly report, or you might get it when the game begins. Or this might just be part of the user manual as well. Perhaps a seperate section of the X-Net discusses the X-Corps, summarizing what would be in a user manual (I personally think an online help system could also be within the X-Net to back up the normal manual).

Unless someone tells me different I will try to get somthing hammered out tommorow.

FUNDING

Once the political leaders of the world acknowledged the imperious need of constituting a defensive authority against the Alien menace, Project Xenocide was initiated and X-Corps was founded. The needed budget for such a massive operation is too large for a single government to support and keep financially intact. Therefore, the most economically powerful nations established the Council of Funding Nations (CFN), a secret political agency that will provide the necessary funds to X-Corps. Most leaders speculate that the Aliens do not pose an immediate threat and may have even come in peace. X-Corps duty is to be vigilant in case the Aliens adopt a hostile attitude against humanity. If the organization has been protecting the Earth, the incoming funding will increase.

Members of the CFN are represented by a speaker. Each month, the counsel is called to discuss with the X-Corps tactical command about the organization’s performance, its demands and changes in funding. Each country has the ability to raise the funding, lower it and even withdraw from the CFN, if the X-Corps' performance doesn't meet its expectations. The whole procedure is classified in order to eliminate suspicion of the existence of X-Corps and not to disturb the population.

“Let’s see… Ammunition… $28000… New weaponry… $575000… Hey, what’s this?! “Space Invaders – Arcade training simulation” !!?
- Megan Heller, Head of Economics

So, I guess that other texts which weren't included in EU will be available in Xenocide, right?

Low priority μεν, but I will work on it when I can't work on the others δε. Μην παρεξηγηθούμε.

I made many changes in the CT above, but it is still small in length. Got any ideas?

Private sponsors were discussed for Version 1.0+, but it might be in its right to include a paragraph with this in mind.

And perhaps an explaination on how the money is transfered?

Yes, some background info and maybe some new stuff will make into Xenocide; not game mechanics wise, but information for the XNet nonetheless.

Hrm... maybe add something about how Alien salvage and items of X-Corps manufacture are sold on the open world market? Or some sort of oversight (like monthly inspections by a team of representatives from funding countries)? I sort of see the world governments as somewhat selfish (they have to be in order to keep their identity), so I would imagine the governments wanting some sort of immediate benefit from the X-Corps program they are funding.

It's like, well, a country is paying lots of money, giving up land for bases, and allowing a secretive group of foreigners onto their soil. This secretive group has technological advancements far beyond what anyone else on the world has. What if one country gained the new technology and another did not? Though they currently fight Aliens successfully, it is the country and the people that will survive the war, whereas the X-Corps will (likely) be dismantled following the resolution of the conflict. The countries have to look to the future after the war, while the X-Corps only has to focus on their immediate foe, the Aliens. Uneven distribution of technology could lead to world-scale conflicts following the destruction of the Aliens...

Well, that's my cynical take... :P

EDIT- oops, I wasn't paying attention...

I thought this CT was X-Corps Founding instead of X-Corps Funding. Hrm, maybe monthly inspections could be a condition for funding?

Lets see...

Once the monthly fund has been agreed on, it has to be transfered to X-Corps. This is done in a indirrect manner, as the actual money is not found in the hands of the X-Corps Commander. This action would be too dangerious, as it would likely expose the operation, as the money could easily be traced. Instead, the money is sent to, and kept within an external firm, which deals with buying and selling of millitary arms, equiptment, and payment to personel. This firm, codenamed XCF (X-Corps Funds), keeps a close co-operation with most of the weapon manufacturers, recruitment agencies and manufacturers of the world. Through these bounds, all required resources, for use in the X-Corps, can easily be purchased.

When selling classified materials (be it alien weaponry or X-Corps develped equiptment), the XCF makes sure that these will not end up on the open market, and only sold to countries part of the CFN. To prevent any uneven distribution of technology and firepower, and therefore any potential dangerious situation after the alien invasion, the informations and materials are spread equally between the countries. The whereabouts of any resources or information are always known by the XCF, which then makes sure it doesn't find its way into the wrong hands. Along with the plans of making any information known by the public once the war is over, the chance of a large scaled war due to the actions of X-Corps, are close to being non-existant.

Some people say that dreams are a portal to the subconscious. If that is so, I am a very disturbed person.

I always wondered how exactly any government (Or all of them combined, for that matter) could cover up something as huge as a massive alien invasion of Earth? I don't know, tales of huge craft floating over the US and landing in major cities to attack civilians would travel pretty quickly whether the news said anything or not, unless of course we have sort of an MIB deal where you contain the whole city and hypnotize everybody or something.
Ya gotta scrub them, scrub them, dirty toes,

Who said they were trying to or even succeeding at covering it up? Alien Terror attacks work by reducing the people's morale, therefore it is not covered, it if was covered, then they would have no purpose.

1) This entry is available from the start of the game, when the X-Corps can't even imagine the horrors awaiting humanity. As other texts (like Alien Goal) become available, you start to realize the truth. Of course, no-one wants to terrify the public, but once the first terror attack starts, it is quite difficult to cover up the truth, right? Imagine what happens when the 2nd and 3rd terror mission take place...

2) In addition, this CT is very old and needs to be changed according to our new standards and the other texts. Would you like to give it a try?

Precisely, last time we discussed the issue, we had had the satellite grid destroyed and great panic spreading, with governments trying to calm people down.

X-CORPS FUNDING
X-Net://Pegasus.net/Logistics/Funding

Once the political leaders of the world acknowledged the imperious need of constituting a defensive authority against the Alien menace, Project Xenocide was initiated and X-Corps was founded. The needed budget for such a massive operation is too large for a single government to support and keep financially intact. Therefore, the most economically powerful nations established the Council of Funding Nations (CFN), a secret political agency that will provide the necessary funds to X-Corps. Each country-member of the CFN is represented by a speaker.

In order not prevent exposure of our organization’s existence to the public, various corporations were founded and were collectively codenamed XCFF (X-Corps Funding Firms). XCFF’s responsibility is the management of X-Corps’ funds, the materialization of economic transactions and the signing of contracts with recruitment and logistics agencies and military manufacturers around the globe. Thus, the organization has access to a variety of goods and resources. In addition, XCFF handles the selling of classified materials (such as alien artifacts or in-house developed equipment), so that it is distributed evenly to members of the CFN and to prevent leaks to the open market.

Each month, all CFN members are called to discuss with the XCFF about the organization’s performance and changes in funding. Each country has the ability to increase the funding, lower it and even withdraw from the CFN, if the organization’s performance does not meet its expectations. The whole procedure is classified in order to eliminate suspicion of the existence of X-Corps and the CFN.

Most leaders speculate that the Aliens do not pose an immediate threat and may have even come in peace. X-Corps duty is to be vigilant in case the Aliens adopt a hostile attitude against humanity.

Each member-country of the CFN is represented by a speaker. The speaker's obligation is to take care of his country's interest and has the right to veto any proposal made by X-Corps. Even though X-Corps is granted total autonomy of operations, its enterprise should focus only on humanity's best interest.

In order to prevent exposure of the organization’s existence to the public, various corporations were founded and collectively codenamed XCFF (X-Corps Funding Firms). XCFF’s responsibility is the management of X-Corps’ funds, the materialization of economic transactions and the signing of contracts with recruitment and logistics agencies as well as military manufacturers around the globe. Thus, the organization has access to a variety of goods and resources. In addition, XCFF handles the selling of classified materials (such as alien artifacts or in-house developed equipment), so that it is distributed evenly to members of the CFN and to prevent leaks to the open (or even black) market.

Each month, all CFN members are called to discuss with the XCFF about the organization’s performance and changes in funding. Countries have the ability to increase their funding, lower it and even withdraw from the CFN, granted that X-Corps actions do not meet their expectations. The whole procedure is classified in order to eliminate suspicion of the existence of X-Corps and the CFN.

Most leaders speculate that the Aliens do not pose an immediate threat and may have even come in peace. X-Corps duty is to be vigilant in case the Aliens adopt a hostile attitude against humanity.

...The needed budget for such a massive operation is too large for a single government to finance on its own and would put its economical and political stability in jeopardy. I dont think needed is the right word... perhaps projected budget or required budget?

...Therefore, the most economically most powerful nations established the Council of Funding Nations.. Still doesnt quite make sense, the economically most powerful nation, seems like an awkward sentence trying to descibe two seperate attributes. Are we saying the most powerful and the most financilly secure or theichest countrys? Perhaps restructuring the whole sentence

...Even though X-Corps is granted total autonomy of operations, its enterprise should focus only on humanity's best interest. I love this sentence!...haha nice. In another thread, the X-corps is not an enterprise... perhaps it is an organization then.... "...operations, the organisation should focus..."

"...In addition, XCFF handles the selling of classified...", XCFF is an acronym for X-corps Funding Firms, then this would read ...In addition, X-corps Funding Firms handles the selling of classified..... is that right? Should it be XCFF stands for X-corps Funding Firm or should it be XCFF handle the...? IS that too many plurals? Or am i wrong again biggrin.gif hahaha....

Perhaps the last paragraph needs a bit more body? seems to be just stuck on the end there. Also is there an agreement or contract signed or is this just all verbal due to secrecy? Perhaps we should say? What is to stop a country saying well you dont meet our expectations so we are pulling our funding to your organisation but still expect to be protected (as the overall points the aliens accumulate to give the end of the month ratings are added even if the aliens activity was in a a country that had secret dealings with the aliens) Does this make sense? Hmmmm... its late sorry might not be making sense... or only to me

Very nice! I can't find anything right now. Maybe one thing you could think about: I think the first sentence might feel a little sudden. So maybe you could think of a better wording or another sentence you could put in front of that one so that the text doesn't start with "Once".

Is veto the right word? And/or does the country really have the power to use their veir veto vote against X-corps? Agreed they can withdraw funding at any time in the operations, but if China doesnt agree to say taking down a battleship over Russia, can China excersise their right and veto the decision? Just an example, perhaps something more like North America doesnt agree to funding a base in the Artic, can they vote not to? Does it affect the game? Perhaps we should put something in about the fact that at any time they can withdraw their support or increase and decrease funding from the project rather than veto something? Even though X-Corps is granted total autonomy of operations, the organization should focus only on humanity's best interest. o... should have kept reading :(

Very nice. just two very small things: One, I don't know if XCFFs is not a singular. I know the abbreviation stands for a lot firms, but they are, and I quote: "collectively codenamed", which in my eyes makes them one body which should be addressed in singular. Following this logic there is one line to fix:

X-CORPS FUNDING
X-Net://Pegasus.net/Logistics/Funding
[...]

In order to prevent exposure of the organization's existence to the public, various corporations were founded and collectively codenamed XCFF (X-Corps Funding Firms). [...]

and then there is this second thing. I think it would be best to make a simple statement about the Xenocard. I don't see the improvement a question mark does, well I see your intention - at least I think so, but I don't think it is the right place. :)

X-CORPS FUNDING
X-Net://Pegasus.net/Logistics/Funding

With the sudden increase of alien sightings around the globe, world political leaders acknowledged the imperious need of constituting a defensive authority against the Alien menace, leading to initiation of Project Xenocide and the founding of X-Corps. The projected budget for such a massive operation is too large for any single government to finance on its own and would put its economical and political stability in jeopardy. Therefore, the economically most powerful nations established the Council of Funding Nations (CFN), a secret political agency that will provide the necessary funds to X-Corps. Each member-country of the CFN is represented by a speaker. The speaker's obligation is to take care of his country's interest and as such has the right to veto any proposal made by X-Corps. Even though X-Corps is granted total autonomy of operations, the organization should focus only on humanity's best interest.

In order to prevent exposure of the organization's existence to the public, various corporations were founded and collectively codenamed XCFF (X-Corps Funding Firms). XCFF's responsibility is the management of X-Corps' funds, the materialization of economic transactions and the signing of contracts with recruitment and logistics agencies as well as military manufacturers around the globe. Thus, the organization has access to a variety of goods and resources. In addition, XCFF handles the selling of classified material (such as alien artifacts or in-house developed equipment), assuring even distribution to CFN members and prevention of information leaks to the black market.

Each month, all CFN members are called to discuss with the XCFF about the organization's performance and changes in funding. Countries have the ability to increase their funding, lower it and even withdraw from the CFN, granted that the organization's actions do not meet their expectations. The whole procedure is classified in order to eliminate suspicion of the existence of X-Corps and the CFN. The agreement and all logs are kept by the X-Corps Command and must be provided in these monthly meetings.

Most leaders believe that the Aliens do not pose an immediate threat and may have even come in peace. X-Corps duty is to be vigilant in case the Aliens adopt a hostile attitude against humanity. We speculate that sooner or later the Aliens will take direct action against political leaders in order to neutralize mankind's defense from the inside. We must provide adequate support and take immediate action once the alien menace moves against mankind, not only to protect the innocent people but also to provide leaders with motives to support the organization's funding.

"Heavy Cannon... $8000, XC-11 Condor... $600,000, 50 highly paid scientists... $1,800,000... To find the right answer when THEY come knocking at your door... priceless. There are things in life you cannot buy, for everything else, there's Xenocard!

Grammar and syntax errors are off. I made a proposal above, which mainly improves flow. In addition, I thought that it's practically impossible to introduce such information/technology to the open market, who would believe you anyway? O_o To make matters worse, the world would be shocked to see something like that being freely sold. So, the black market is the way to go, prices are higher there anyway ;)

It's 2vs2 on the fluff... So let's wait for a new, fresh opinion :D
