j'ordos
I take it you're using the DOS version. Get the CE (check the pinned topic on top of this forum).
[Blehm 98]
i have no idea which version i am using, only that it is 1.0. if it is for dos, then i don't know anything
Cpl. Facehugger
1.0 is dos if I remember correctly. You should get either Dosbox or the CE version.
[NKF]
Hang on, hang on. Bad command or filename? Is the game installed? It doesn't matter what version of the game you have, if it's not installed, all you'll get would be 'bad command or filename' from the command console. If you have installed it, check to see that the file you use to run the game is there - or if it comes in any other variations. For example, older versions of UFO (v1.0 mostly), used to come with small.bat, full.bat and go.bat - you can even use runxcom.bat if you've installed XComutil. Later versions of UFO just use ufo.bat or ufocd.bat (which calls ufo.bat but with one additional paramter) If you're using a shortcut, is it pointing to the right directory? Open up its properties and make sure its working directory and its target filename is correct. Or if you're using the command prompt, are you in the game directory before typing the name of the batch/com file that starts up UFO/TFTD? - NKF Edited February 16, 2004 by NKF

remysweet
I'm having problems installing XCOM, too. I have DOS 1.0 and it says "goto was not expected at this time" What gives?
[NKF]
Speaking of the XP command console, you can access it by: start > programs > accessories > command prompt Or you can just go to start >run and then type in cmd and hit enter. If you to use it a lot, you might want to put a shortcut in the start menu (you can also look for the nifty MSdos 6.x icon in moricons.dll, which still exists, for those of you that still remember it) Those who've used the command console from Dos 5 to 6, Windows 95 or Windows 98 might be a little disappointed with the XP variant of the DIR command, but hey, it's still there if you need it. - NKF Edited March 9, 2004 by NKF
