Some Questions

Hey all, i have some questions on tweaking my game play. Im playing a game where Im just testing ideas out and I have come out with the following questions.

 

Is there any reason why one shouldnt use entirely Avengers as attack craft near the end of the game. Im very rich with bases that basically only store Elerium so resources are no problem. Does an Avenger use more Elerium as fuel than a Firestorm? Firestorms are slower and (most annoyingly) have short range. Can I just have an Avenger at every base instead of firestorms? Obvioulsy most of them would be empty.

 

Also, if you train your soldiers in weight training by carrying around corpses how much should you carry? The more the merrier? If a soldier is so weighed doen he only gets 20 time units, is he better off dropping some stuff so he has more?

 

Do soldiers gain stats equally from running around as they do from flying around?

 

I think thats all for now. Any comments greatly appreciated.

Avengers use twice as much fuel (2 Alien Power Source Remember). This is more pronounced if your version of Xcom has the Human-UFOs-suck-Elerium-like-SUVs bug and the run-out-of-elerium-and-your-UFO-disapears bug. Avengers cost more to build, take longer to build.

 

It's just a matter of cost; if you can afford it then go ahead. On the other hand you can probably get all the coverage you want with, say, only 2 at each polar base. I use an artifical rule where I can ONLY use the avenger for Cydonia. Check-out my game notes, I have an Xcom Aircraft Employment Schedule you might find interesting.

Good question; need you only be slightly encumbered or does more encumberance give you more results? I never checked. If you check-out my game notes I have a table listing the weights of everything and a schedule for "maxing-out" the weight a soldier can carry.

 

Test it yourself and let us know; I'd be interesting in finding-out.

As I recall those suits give you more movement. It may be that they simply make all movement costs the same as floor. I've never checked for flying, I suspect it may if flying tires the soldiers and if carrying stuff while flying encumbers you.

avengers are extremely helpful... if you load it up with 2 plasma cannons it can take down a battleship by itself, this may save your base if you have no defences and/or no soldiers. although, since they have so much armor, often time sthey take 1/4 or 1/2 damage when trying to take down a battleship, and those things take forever to repair! :cussing: . for soldier weight training, i always thought the more weight the better, one is you dont have to move the soldiers as much. if your going to weight train your soldiers, try taking a craft down in the desert, and climb up and down the hills, takes a lot of tu's. and, im also not sure if each unit of space ( in invintory) weights the same? would packing your backpack full of grenades be the same as full of incinerary rockets? im not sure... when i weight trained i always used incinerary rockets, as they looked the biggests and heaviest. oh, there is a firestorm bug that allows you to fly forever, it did it for me once, and its on the internet, so im sure its a duplical bug. but thats only if your a chetar like me :)
