Maybe Indoor Defences?

What if you could build a place were there are about 15 to 20 automatic guns that if and alien walks into it get's shredded by machinegun, laser, or plasma fire. Or maybe a mod that allow's you to add guns to an existing facillity? Also why don't the aliens have surface to air weapons? for when the human ships fly near it a nasty suprise that "afflicts" them.

Heavier stationary weapons sound nice. A mounted .50 cal minigun in end of a long hallway would be cool, and i'd definitely build some if it was my base. Later on laser, plasma and mass driver versions upgrades. If i understood correctly, base facilities are more versatile to construct than original and these small "security stations" could be built almost anywhere.

For balance aliens could invade in really big numbers or have some other advantage... It seemed quite stupid that 20 puny sectoids tried over and over again to overrun my primary base which had 40+ scarred veterans with heavy plasma and psiamps.

I don't like idea of automated turrets, i think it should be a heavy weapon station for soldiers to operate.

Also,when a military base is constructed, every cross-section and hallway has something to help defenders like those small holes in wall where to shoot from.

And please make a RED ALARM -button which sets base defence forces in battlestations (Takes about 10 minutes, stops all other activity in base for an hour)If not engaged properly, other personel would be in way of battle (Techs, scientists, janitor...) and military personel would be scattered all over the base.

Yup, Manned turrets would be nice to have. The aliens would have to get some sort of EMP weapon or something that disables turrets to give them a chance though. I mean, I'd place turrets near every possible entry point.

And I really like your red alert button.

Yep, DEFINITELY need a "Red alert" button...
(Or how about a "Panic Button", like in ages old Outpost? :LOL:)

Turrets... HWP are already it, but having a fixed, cheaper one (with motion-sensors ie good reaction) would be real nice... unless they bring blaster launchers in our bases :D )

AND WE NEED VIDEO CAMERAS INSIDE BASES!!!
Maybe the aliens would try to shoot ehm all up, but at least you'd know where there are aliens...
And failing lights, that'd be cool and balance it a bit...

Possibly could tie in with varied number of attackers and so forth. For example, a medium sized UFO launches an attack on your primary base with say 8 aliens. Your defences make the UFO pretty heavily damaged, which kills 5 troops to begin with, and then your new turret kills the rest. Therefore, the battleship is sent in to deal with the base.

This could additionally affect the race - eg a small floater UFO is sent to begin with, finishing with an etherial battleship (or three?!)

I would like to see some massive base invasions, if the interface allows fairly smooth control. It doesn't make too much sense that greys try to take my primary base with 20 puny soldiers even after they have seen my elite squad waste ethereal battleships. UFO:s on mission are a different thing, there should not be too much resistance as they are not meant to fight. Base attack team has specifically prepared for a tough fight and heavy resistance. Normal military prefers at least triple the force of defenders before direct attack, aliens will likely know the force of large numbers as well. This is direct response to fortifications the defenders have built, such as choke points, mines and sentry guns. A large base should be far more difficult to take over than a battleship, and in defending there should be credible force attacking.

Yep, both suggestions are fine... Having a smaller (Large scout? terror ship?) attack a base first would make it more realistic, since they don't know what they're up against. Afterwards it should be only Battleships, since they know we can overwhelm them...
Perhaps TWO (or more) battleships assaulting our bases... :o
That way, we'd never really feel completely safe inside our base's defenses :D

That is the idea. Additionally, I feel that a battle screen should appear when being attacked at a base. Perhaps change the defenses slightly so that you can control them. At THAT time (not in geoscape) you should be aable to determine size of invasion. I personally think that a base attack UFO should not be seen even by HWD. In this way, you either have to leave a few troops behind or risk your base. Also, I think that if you only have scientists/engineers left at your base, that they should be used as defense, and that they can be drafted in for emergency precautions, the same way as any injured troops at the base.

Yeah, altough I don't see how much control I'd have, it's all basically point and shoot... :D
On the other hand, the HWD is supposed to show EVERY alien vessel, but base attack vessels should simlpy appear right on top of your base, and go straight down, leaving us with VERY little time to prepare most of the times...

And drafting scientists/engineers is nice, except they should run back to the Gen. stores to grab a gun or something, and they'd have poor aim, reactions, bravery and TUs... I'm not sure even a hundred of these would stop an invasion, since they'd all panick once they start dying... Then again, it's amazing what we can do with a blaster launcher...
Wounded soldiers can still be usefull though... :D
