Fusion Ball Launcher do have a purpose

If you don't have your own UFOs yet. Four interceptors armed with dual Fusion Launchers attacking simulataneously will smash a Battleship. Likely you will lose one interceptor, rarely two, and occasionally I've actually lost none.

 

The trick is to wait until the fourth interceptor arrives. Then open the windows go around once QUICKLY clicking on cautious attack, when you get back to the first interceptor click abort attack. By the time you get back to an interceptor it will have unloaded all its fusion balls.

 

If you've never done this before, it's a good idea to save just before you do the attack and practice it a few times (of course saving if you luck out with no losses).

 

Plus when you down a Battleship, especially with interceptors you feel like the world is at your feet (technically I suppose it is though, hmm? weird expression).

Early in the game, sometimes when I feel like I want to blow things out of the air, I equipt one of my defalt interceptors with 2 avalanche launchers, works well for me. But it doesnt work against large ships and really large ones, one hit kills for me :ugh:

The best weapon is the plasma cannon. It's free of ammo, and the only ship wire back against your interceptor is the battleship

Early on arming with Dual Avalanche is standard proceedure. But I do keep one armed with stingray and cannon to shoot down UFO cheaply. Sure it can only fight small ones but since most of them are small it works out.

 

Yep the best weapon is the plasma cannon, for the afore mensioned reasons. I suspect four interceptors so armed might also be able to defeat a battleship but you will lose more of them than if they were armed with Fusion Ball launchers.

 

Until you have your own UFOs you can keep a squad of Fusion-ball interceptors specifically to take down the five-legged monsters.
