Guest Thraxwhirl
Hi, everyone. I chanced upon this forum yesterday, while looking for a solution to the - you guessed it - problem of finding the last alien aboard a Shipping Route mission. . Yes, the same problem EVERYONE gets frustrated by. Needless to say, I found my answer... use Xcomutil, and apply the flag "WIN" followed by "WRT". Easy enough. But no. It didn't work, and I was given the following error message: "Invalid flag for GEOSCAPE.EXE: WIN" I also tried the "VIS" flag, thinking maybe if I could be given the last alien's location I could go and despatch him myself, but it gave the same error(ie. "Invalid flag for GEOSCAPE.EXE: VIS"). Indeed it's telling me that ANY flag I try to apply is invalid for GEOSCAPE.EXE, which seems odd, since my game is currently saved during the BATTLSCAPE phase aboard a ship. Has anyone else had this problem? Has it been documented before? I'd be grateful for thoughts on this. Thanks.
j'ordos
You probably forgot to specify the savegame, so if you use slot #1, you have to type : xcomutil.exe game_1 WIN wrt more details and other solutions see this thread : http://www.xcomufo.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2705

The entire command read: "D:\Games\TFTD\XcomUtil Game_1 WIN WRT" It reckons any flag I give it is invalid. I'll take a look at that thread though. Thanks. Guest Guest
Ah wait. That's thread I read yesterday, which is where I learnt that the "WIN" flag could be used in "killing the last alien" situations.
j'ordos
well, then try xcomshell, it's on the xcomutil homepage
Guest Guest
well, then try xcomshell, it's on the xcomutil homepage <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Funnily enough. I've just DLd that a few moments ago. It loads in the save games fine, and I can view all the info. There's one gill man left alive (17 hit points) but I don't seem to be able to alter any of the information in the saved game, only view it. There's no way to enter any commands as far as I can tell. j'ordos
How do you mean you can't alter anything, does it give an error message or something? Then perhaps something went wrong during the installation of xcomutil, did you run xcusetup, btw?
Guest Guest
How do you mean you can't alter anything, does it give an error message or something? Well, no. There's no error message. The programme runs. It shows a list of saved games. f1 gives access to its help file. THAT works. f2 packs a zip - unnecessary(?). f3 UNpacks one. f4 shows info on the saved game selected, BUT there's no cursor or anything enabling me to edit any information. Then perhaps something went wrong during the installation of xcomutil, did you run xcusetup, btw?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, as far as I can TELL it's ok. It's doing things I specified when Iran the setup and installation - like new subs(barracudas carrying crew) and gauss weapons requiring no ammo clips etc. But any flag I enterittells me is invalid... which it WASN'T doing yesterday BTW. Jonaleth Irenicus
Why does it give a flag error for GEOSCAPE.EXE? As far as I understand, you are not working on the geoscape but battlescape, so the savegame should be running on the tactical.exe (or the equivalent of that in TFTD, I forgot the exact file name now). Are you sure you're working on the correct save game?

Guest Thraxwhirl
you can select the savegame by pressing enter, then you get a menu enabling you to do stuff :wink1: Aha! I'll give that a go. *Does it.* Woohoo! They have a set all aliens to dead feature right there! Yay! *Does dance* Important Quick Question though - Can you tell me, before I go to reload the game, does XCOMSHEL autosave the amendments when I press Esc to go back to its main menu, or do I have to give it a save command somehow? same as J-I said, sure it is the correct savegame?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Aye, definitely. I've only got the one - Game_1. And no, J-I, I've no idea why it says that WIN is an invalid flag for GEOSCAPE.EXE, when my only saved game is currently in the Battlescape phase. Makes NO sense to me whatsoever. Love the icon BTW. I'm quite into Baldur's Gate II myself. Had it installed on me machine in the summer, but then the PC exploded! Motherboard died. Got it replaced in aboot August, and haven't yet got around to re-installin' it. Will do though, but I have a question for you. Is there a groovy BGII forum that you can recommend? One where people discuss mods and stuff? Once I've got BGII re-installed, I want to learn how to create Custom NPCs and stick 'em in me game. Well, although I assume you noticed by now, there's no need to save, it applies instantly (it's a frontend, so when you use a function, it simply runs xcomutil with the correct commandline parameters), so if you don't get an error using xcomshell, you must have done something wrong, beats me what it'd be tho... Guest Thraxwhirl
It worked! It worked! The last gill man fell dead when I ended my turn! Woohooo!! Thanks ever so much, you guys. I don't have a clue why XComUtil's giving me an error pertaining to the GEOSCAPE when my saved game isn't using that, but with XCOMSHEL it worked!! Many thanks folks. Now I can go and deal with an alien colony I've found! Yaayyyy!!
Jonaleth Irenicus
I used to visit a lot of forums on BG-II, but mostly they were pretty much game related and not that much into mods. Since I don't like modding BG-II myself (I think the scenario can't be bested), I can't really help you there. But if you have looked for some forums and could not find a good modding forum, you could try looking for e-mail groups instead. I find some games have solid e-mail groups on yahoo.
