Hello everyone,

I played interceptor when I was younger and it was one of my favorite games. Of course I had a bit of nostalgia for so I got it out again and tried it on the new machine. I am sure most of you are familiar with the bugs with the probes, which I came across, and I guess it happens in a couple of other missions as well that I didn't get to because I didn't get past that part. I read about those problems when searching for possible solutions.

I have probably spent upwards to 10 hours total trying to solve this problem and I have read about some possible solutions that I have not yet been able to get to work fully in and of themselves. Compatibility mode doesn't do it for me.

I did read about dosbox from this website http://commanderx.xc.../important.html. However, I didn't get it to work with any of the x com games, including interceptor. Has anyone tried this with success for interceptor. I was able to get ufo defense to work fine on xp without it.

More promising than this was the virtual pc that microsoft lets people download for free. In order to get this to work I need to get a boot copy of 98. I don't want to pay for this and I have found an iso or something on the internet but it didn't immediately work. i don't have a floppy drive so I have to find something else to get around that or else buy a drive. If I spent enough time and effort at this I could probably at least get virtual 98 up. However, I was getting pretty tired of trying to figure it out when I got to this point.

Before I go further down these paths and waste hours and hours more time, I was just curious if anyone else has tried this and if so did it work very well or what problems did you run into? Also, has anyone tried anything else that was effective? thanks guys

Well, I guess no one has tried it or at least no one has looked at it. I got bored last night and so I decided to work more on the virtual pc thing. Windows 98 se is now installing on my virtual machine and I am exited to try out x com on it to see if the bug persists. I will let you know if it works.

Near the end of last year they re-released all xcom games on steam.

First three games are playable through dosbox. Supposedly they also fixed that problem with probes and bases in interceptor.
