This happens in both X-COM1 and 2 CE and it's happened twice so far in TFTD and once in UFO Enemy Unknown. The game runs fine otherwise, if a UFO lands it's no problem, but if I need to attack one I'm screwed. Am I the only one having this problem?.

I'm on an older HP Pavilion Laptop with an...

ATI Mobility Radeon 9000/9100 128mb IGP series AGP
Intel Pentium IV 3GHz Dual Core
SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio
DirectX 9.0c
Windows XP SP3 with DirectDraw Disabled in order to run X-COM.

I'm not using compatibility mode for either game, does it have any affect whatsoever?.

I'm sorry I created this topic in the wrong section, it should be in tech support.

I should add that using alt-tab, alt+F4 or ctrl+alt+del does nothing. The computer locks up and I need to force a shutdown by holding down the power button. WTF

Edit: Problem solved. After looking at this topic I found the problem. I needed to change "MIDI music playback" from "SoundMax Wavetable Synth" to "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth" and I set it to "Use only default devices". Now I can use "ldr_XCOM1.exe" and "ldr_XCOM2.exe" to launch X-COM1 and 2 and not need to manually disable "DirectDraw". I also don't need to use "Turbo" anymore!!. I can raise or lower the music too. :)

It was working fine a few times, then it started reoccurring, so I stopped playing on the Laptop and started using my PC instead. It's got a SB Audigy (1) Gamer.
