Guest SoulWind
The game crashes as soon as it tries to go into tactical mode... I'm using winXP updated xcom, used the fix, checked the directory, changed it, checked the file attributes, etc, etc, etc... Doesn't work... I was wondering if it was just me. Guest SoulWind
My copy is from the site posted on this board... First thread I think... I tried that... Didn't work either... Hmm... For my disapointment... Xcom utils was causing that bug... It just ran normaly without it... Is there any known option that could cause that? j'ordos
Well, which options of xcomutil have you enabled? and which version of xcomutil are you using? Also, does the game crash EVERY time you enter battlescape, or are you loading a savedgame?lastly, seeing as it was xcomutil, try a full reinstall of xcom and xcomutil and try again (it's possible something went wrong during installation... )
Guest SoulWind
The last one, 9.43 if my memory is working correctly. It used to crash evety time I got into battlescape... But I rerun the xcom utils setup .bat file and set options to their default... I could try checking which option cause the crash, but I think it was the one that generates battle reports. It wasn't installation... I redid it a few times
j'ordos
Well, since this seems to be a problem with xcomutil rather than xcom itself, I'll move this to the 'xcomutil forum', and hope stjones knows what's up, as I don't I'll try that latest version too sometime, see if anything's wrong with my xcom then. Facehugger
Well, I had a similar problem (and still have it actually) Whenever I got to any tactical site, the game quit (I later found out I could re enter it via the tactical exe, and pick up where my tac game left off.) But the problem is that the game crashes for no reason a few turns into that mission! Iv'e tried it with all sorts of missions, all the same problem The stats of the comp im trying to run it on (and yes it is the ce)800mhz Pentium III128mb RAM8mb Integrated intel graphics
j'ordos
Even when you didn't use xcomutil?
Cpl. Facehugger
Yes, but I could fix it if I deleated xcomutil from my game dir. This sux because I really like some of the features of xcomutil!
stjones
Now that this has been reported in this forum, I'll try to handle it. First, I need to know what configuration you are running. That is, what operating system, what video card, what version of XcomUtil, what version of the game, and did you select the option of using f0dder's loader. If you execute "xcomutil ufoexe" from the command line in the game directory, XcomUtil will report its version and the version of the game it THINKS you have. Be sure that you use the latest version, XcomUtil 9.42. It is VERY hard for XcomUtil to cause the problems you are reporting. Usually, it is an OS vs Xcom version problem. Usually only the patching of a misidentified game version will cause the program to crash. f0dder's loader addressed a number of video and sound problems, but you may have something he did not anticipate. Please contact me by Yahoo! Messenger (id = xcomutil) or AOL Instant Messenger (id = stjones). An interactive chat can work wonders to solve these things. Trevelyan
hrmmm, I to am having this same problem with my most recent installation. Perhaps it is f00dars loader, how do i get to the option to turn it off again, setup just skips it now.

The .xcf files are XcomUtil Flag files. To see what each one does, you can use the DOS type command or the Windows WordPad to view the contents. They are all just text files. The batch files and XcomUtil itself check for the existence of each file to determine what options were selected.
Gump
Hi there! i'm also havin the same problem with Xcom gold and the xcomutil. i mean, the game will quit whenever i want to go to the tactical mode. i know it is not the game because it runs fine without the utils. the thing is, it is really not consistently crashing. say, about 9 out of 10 times when i want to go to tactical mode i will crash. and the one time that it manage to go the tactical mode, it will quit when i hit the dustoff button. all this is happenning on my first enggagement with the crash sites/ landing sites. here's my machine specs:AMD 850, 256mb Ram, geforce2 mx, running on win98se. can't remember the xcomutils ver though. i downloaded it somewhere in november. any help is greatly appreciated. tq. Hellblade
Are you people running with the MS-Dos Prompt of WinXP? If you are here's a could-work solution for all of you. Get Dosbox or other similar dos emulators. It even fixes the problem where you have no music.
