I knew that röntgen is the scientist who discovered the X-Rays (he got a nobel prize) and you can actually use the term "röntgen radiation" instead of "X-Ray radiation"

 

 

In addition, that's what most dictionaries say:

o well, I got the first part of that from the online Wikipaedia, plus why would the scientists need the penetrating power of Rontgens or is that for x-rays? :hmmm:
X-Rays, Gamma rays, they are all useful to a scientist. A wide radiation spectrum can help you in observation and experimenting, in autopsies... So, maybe we should talk about "Rontgen and γ-ray" scanners :P.

 

Anyway, except from that minor issue, is there anything else we should work on?

How about "Full Spectrum Electromagnetic Imaging"? Even though the full em spectrum may be infinite, the really low or high frequencies aren't too useful so this may be a better choice than limiting the range to a certain wavelength such as Roentgens. ^_^

Thanks for the input, Mad. I'm assuming you mean "neutron scanner" - the type used in some airport security systems to not only image the contents of a package but also discern what compounds are found within it.

Thanks for the input, Mad. I'm assuming you mean "neutron scanner" - the type used in some airport security systems to not only image the contents of a package but also discern what compounds are found within it.

Could be, though the scanners at airports display people "naked" to put it flatley, the scanners I'm speaking about need a linear accelerator and are able to e.g. show moving pictures of the inside of a motor while it is running and obviously are much more bulky (due to the accelerator) than those used at airports... :)

I was trying to envision paragraph 3's table workbench, and I kind of though that the "featureless flat surface in the center" part was kind of wordy; most tables are flat, so adding an adjective is simpler (flat, nondescript). I got kind of fancy and added "seemingly" so that this advanced lab doesn't sound like it has just a table. Um, what I really mean is that it adds contrast- it's not just a table... it has x, y, and z. Maybe I'm making this too complicated, though.

 

Zombie's word suggestions are good; I couldn't decide so I tossed in a couple of my suggestions, too.

LABORATORY FACILITY

Our initial intelligence reports tell us that the Aliens are using highly advanced craft and armaments; their movements are seemingly erratic, and their motives unknown. Conventional weapons seem ineffective against them and our toughest armor is easily penetrated by their weaponry. Against these almost impossible odds, our greatest and only weapon is science.

 

Since we are not familiar with Alien technology, our laboratories must cover all aspects of modern science. Due to the base module size restriction of 25x25 meters, the research area was conceptualized as an adaptable workspace. The laboratory has a design that is easily customized to focus on one specific subject or several smaller ones. Up to 50 scientists, usually organized in three 8-hour shifts, can work in a single laboratory.

 

When not in use, this facility features little other than a large, seemingly nondescript L-shaped workbench. Connections for easy access to distilled water, electrical power, laboratory gases and a vacuum exhaust system are integrated into the sides of the counter at regular intervals. Moreover, it provides ample storage space for a multitude of fully customizable devices and instruments. Sterile laminar airflow hoods for biological research, anti-electrostatic mats for sensitive electronics and shielded, remote-controlled workspace for hazardous materials are additional modules that can be set-up when needed.

 

In one corner of the lab a large interactive screen allows easy tracking of workflow, assignment of specific tasks and shows current research results. In addition, Firenet™ nodes located throughout the workbenches provide the scientists with lightning fast wireless connections for optimal information exchange.

 

Anticipating a need to examine live specimens, a small, high security Alien containment area with added analysis capabilities is included.
