Cannon Tank

In the early years of the Gulf Reformation Wars of the late Twentieth Century, the first Remotely Operated Vehicles saw military use. These early models had few, if any weapons and completely lacked autonomy software, instead being directly controlled by a soldier nearby. The viciousness of the Gulf Reformation War combined with advancements in composites and political fallout from human losses pushed the military ROV into the forefront of both development and deployment.

The peak of current ROV technology is the Modular Tank Chassis, built of carbon-reinforced, high-impact plastic for lightness, giving it an unmatched speed and agility. Armored with fifteen layers of ceramic composite mesh, the MTC is well protected against attack, and the latest hydrogen fuel cells give the MTC its power. The raw hydrogen itself is stored in a nanotube containment block, preventing explosion even if the MTC itself is destroyed. Twin composite treads are laced with carbon-filament for strength, and when combined with the MTC's liquid-magnetic suspension, allows it to travel over virtually any terrain.

Although safe and fully autonomous combat support vehicles are still beyond current technology, a soldier in even the heaviest firefight can easily control the semi-autonomous MTC without interfering in the operator’s other duties. The AlphaWave neural command system allows the operator to literally command the MTC with his thoughts. Any simple command (Scout, Attack, Defend, Cover-Fire, etc.) can be sent in the blink of an eye by a well trained controller, and the mil-spec independent action software will interpret and execute the command instantly. For operators unwilling to undergo the strenuous neural link training process, an arm mounted control pad is available.

The single hardpoint of the MTC can accommodate a variety of modular turrets, from conventional weapon systems to custom designed battlefield support equipment. The -01C model, is equipped with the first modular weapon system available for the MTC, the cannon turret. Sleek, efficient, and deadly, is

a marvel of modern military technology. With space for thirty 90mm depleted-uranium, discarding SABOT shells, the -01C is able to lay down a rapid covering fire, or strike a single target with pinpoint accuracy. While the early pattern recognition systems in the target acquisition software had minor problems with threat determination (see Hong Kong Massacre), the use of Asimov heuristic algorithms in the optical sensor net has increased its ability to differentiate between an enemy and a civilian to safe levels.

Hm, without a separation of the basis and the weapon system this is almost the same as the Rocket Tank....
Correct me if I'm wrong...

In the early years of the Gulf Reformation Wars of the late Twentieth Century, the first Remotely Operated Vehicles saw military use. These early models had few, if any weapons and completely lacked autonomy software, instead being directly controlled by a “pilot” in a remote controlling center.

Armored with fifteen layers of ceramic composite mesh, the MTC is well protected against attack with standard ammunition. Powered by hydrogen fuel cells of the latest generation the MTC can reach top in field speeds up to 45 km/h for about 24 hours. To prevent human losses by explosion when a MTC is destroyed, the hydrogen is stored in a nanotube containment block. Twin composite treads are laced with carbon-filament for strength, and, combined with the MTC's liquid-magnetic suspension, allow high travel speeds in virtually any terrain.

Although safe and fully autonomous combat support vehicles are still beyond current technology, a soldier in even the heaviest firefight can easily control the semi-autonomous MTC without interfering in the operator’s other duties. Directed via a highly sophisticated control console the MTC can be maneuvered from out every X-Corps transport ship. Since the MTC is shipping with the latest sensor technology coupled to a virtual reality device within the ship its extended range of view allows the pilot to effectively support the ground troops in every situation. As simplification for the controller simple command macros (Scout, Attack, Defend, Cover-Fire) were implemented to ensure the safe and effective controlling of several MTCs at one time. They can be sent in the blink of an eye by a well trained controller, and the mil-spec independent action software will interpret and execute the command instantly.

The single hardpoint of the MTC can accommodate a variety of modular turrets, from conventional weapon systems to custom designed battlefield support equipment. The T-01C model, is equipped with the first modular weapon system that was available for the MTC, a 90mm cannon turret. Sleek, efficient, and deadly, it is a marvel of modern military technology. With space for thirty 90mm depleted-uranium, discarding SABOT shells, the T-01C is able to lay down a rapid covering fire, or strike a single target with pinpoint accuracy.  While the early pattern recognition systems in the target acquisition software had minor problems with threat determination (see Hong Kong Massacre), the use of Asimov heuristic algorithms in the optical sensor net has increased its ability to differentiate between an enemy and a civilian to safe levels.
Since in the X-Corps this system is only used for immediate "reflex" reactions an unintended harming of own troops is excluded. To even increase the safety, every X-Corps Soldier is wearing an ID-Tag which is read by the MTCs sensors and protects the Soldier unless the piloting officer manully overrides this protection.

1) "SABOT"? what's that?

2) "rapid covering fire" sounds like autofire - is the Cannon XCAP going to have that? afaik the XCom Cannon Tank only had snap and aimed.
1) "SABOT"?  what's that?
You wanne know the truth? I have not the slightest idea. :P It's from the original text, and I thought it's a weapon fanatic american guy (sorry boys, nothing personal :D ) who knows what he's writing about...
But google says it exists. Actually Sabot is the description of the hull, so APDS seems to be more accurate. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shell_(projectile) ) But it remembers me to much of "Shadowrunner", that's why I didn't use it. But you're right. I will use APDS in the next version.

Again this was taken from the original text. I'm not sure. I always thought all tanks are able to act the same like soldiers (ok, you got me. they cannot kneel :P )
But it would make sense to have this, wouldn't it? Az?

SABOT is a type of tank cannon round, which involves a large shell discarding the 4 outer pieces of the shell, leaving a small dense and extremely fast moving shot, which when it strikes the hull of its target converts kinetic energy to heat energy, creating jet of plasma that is blown through the tank's hull, virtually guarenteeing an instant kill, if you hit a flat surface

against anything that isn't a tank, not only would discarding SABOT rounds be overkill, but 90 mm shells would be overkill. In reality, a 20-40 mm would be good for a well placed shot, and 60 mm would be enough to kill almost anything on the battlefield

SABOTs themselves are the discarded cartidges

edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armour-pierci...iscarding_sabot

that explains it a lot more fully Edited by blehm

the first one is about the tank chassis, which is the same for all the XCAPS. the second one is about the "Cannon" turret. in the other threads, you will only find the respective turret text, because the chassis is always the same.

So it will be 30mm APDS. Good?

Yap! Exactly :)
Hmm, even the hovertanks are the same chassis?
No. Only the three ground based (so called MTCs) (which are armed with Cannon, Rocket Launcher, Laser). The Hovertanks are no MTCs, so to speak: another base and therefore have their completly own CT. That's the reason why I rewrote all the three MTC based Tanks, but not the two hovertanks.

New version, changed names ( :( *sniff* :P ), slightly enhanced. Didn't change the "rapid covering fire" since I'm still waiting for confirmation on the "it only has snaped and aimed modus" thesis. :)

Minor punctuation and capitolization changes. Otherwise, nice. No consistency problems either. :)
