Too fast, too fast

I downloaded XCOM 1 and 2 few hours ago, but now i'm facing a problem... The game seems to run normally, but in combat is very fast. Scrolling, fighting etc. happen so fast that I can't make anything out of it. Is there anyway to slow down the game or something. I'm running from WinXP and a 700Mhz Athlon.

Also the mouse movement speed in XCOM 3 is very slow. Is there a way to adjust this?

Thanks!

Hey peps,

I have the collectors edition, and yes its quick during the game which can be slowed down with the options, but what about during the world part. You know with the ufopedia, 5 sec, 1 day etc. Man its to quick. Anyway of fixing this?

Cheers.

Yes, someone with Windows XP said this program works.

In ms-dos, there are others, but since one uses the ms-dos prompt unless one restarts the computer totally in ms-dos mode, the mouse may be also be faster due to Windows controlling the ms-dos prompt. Unlike ms-dos that uses the first megabyte of memory, when starting a game from Windows, one uses the ms-dos prompt, so Windows simulates the ms-dos environment and puts the game anywhere in the memory one may have, but as ms-dos to think that it is running by itsself.

Its all explained in the sound card thread, somewhat, on this site:

http://www.dwcs.net/xcom3/

if it does not come up, click the X-COM picture on top left to go then after screen comes up, to the Message Boards and look at the thread.

Slow down program used by XP person here, but if not using the only can use the demo for 20 minutes 'demo', then there is a charge for the program:

http://digilander.libero.it/robyrobo/Produ...ucts/index.html

CPU Killer 2.05

This program works from Windows, there are others mentioned here that work with ms-dos complete mode, don't know about if they work with ms-dos prompt mode: mo'slo and turbo program from ms-dos. Or something like that.

Have not tried any of them, but CPU Killer, since I have the Collector's Edition which works through Windows drivers for everything, and runs in DX version 6.1, and have to turn off Direct Draw (graphic performance accerleration all the way to the left) by running dxdiag.exe from the Systems folder or the other way with the graphics card, or the sound card acceleration, or the mouse acceleration through Control Panel and its settings for anything, the Collector's Edition should run for the first two games on any computer.

I have an old computer, that would run, but I just messed up the OS on it, which was running UFO: Enemy Unknown or the other name for it UFO: UFO Defense, but now I would have to re-install Windows 98 and that will take 8 hours. Since the computer is not that good, and on the newer computer it runs fast, the slowdown program, CPU Killer, may be easier than actually getting the old computer to work. Although it did, until I thought I check the System Files, and it let me mess up shell.dll, in which case, no icons come up when Windows 98 starts now, and nothing can be done with it, except re-install it. Ah, old computers. I reallly don't think that one I have is running quite right.

Oh well!

Well, after all that, it was a bad memory chip. I think I burned it up, haveing it at 5 volts instead of 3.3 volts.

Anyway, on the old computer, the opening screens (movie) would not work unless I had the internal cache of the CPU on.

That slowdown program, kind of works, but it makes all the memory in the machine used, (that's the way it slows down a computer) by loading up all the other memory except what is used for the game, so the computer will slow down. I reallly do not know if prolonged use of it will have adverse effects with any computer, so it does say to use at one's own risk.

Back to the game.

And as mentioned in another forum, if one starts a ms-dos game from Windows (and it's the ms-dos version and not the Collector's Edition with DX6.1) then, ms-dos games always start from the MS-DOS Prompt program with the general PIF file in the C:\Windows directory. Shortcut to the PIF file is what runs it). So, maybe the mouse will still work through Windows, but usually the sound card info will have to be put in the PIF's shortcut file. One of them, there are three, actually (shortcuts) for the MS-DOS Prompt.

Not hard to miss them in the main folder of Windows.

MS-DOS Prompt for games with EMS and XMS Support.

And the others, right click - get up Properties - click the "Program' tab and then the 'Advanced' command button, where one can add lines just like Config.sys and Autoexec.bat, where the program actually starts from Windows, unless one is restarting the computer completely in MS-DOS mode totally, where Config.dos and Autoexec.dos would be used.

One can specify a new configuration for ms-dos sessions, through Windows through that shorcut file - above or one of the others. (Dos Prmpt or MS-DOS Game Support for games or something like that.

For ms-dos games, started by Windows, the Configuration and Sound card and mouse drivers or FILES=40 or whatever would go in that part just like Config.sys or Autoexec.bat files on the C:\ drive would contain that info.
