I've created an X-COM Wiki with the intent of creating a super online resource for information about the X-COM games - tactics, strategies, exploits and bugs.

It would be great if all of the information from the various UFOpaedia's in the games could be incorporated into the Wiki. I've started the ball rolling with a few articles on the X-COM craft in UFO Defense, and will be adding more as time goes by.

If anyone would like to contribute they are more than welcome.

Try http://www.ufopaedia.org, the domain name has sorted itself out now I think.

Due to path issues with the Wiki software, I had to abandon the gazchap.com/ufopaedia address. I'll change the original post now.

Can we add Commnity category? About this forum. About various members and things like Commander Tommy or Turkish Bath!

i also added a placeholder for the last x-com game interceptor...
enforcer is not a real x-com game just a mini game.

Added a page about X-Com Util (accessed from the Elerium-115 page, currently) and a few other odds and ends, adding bits to a few descriptions and adding a key point to the Tentaculat - it's Chryssalid style "kill-the-zombie-and-it-turns-into-another-one" trick.

Added pages for sneaky hints, tricks and tips, as well as exploits, and bugs to take note of so you can avoid blowing yourself to bits just because you didn't know that on CE, you can't fire/guide a blasterbomb straight up into the air from the tile below.

Added a few spell fixes and added the chrys/tenta bug under dirty exploitsplus i added more into the data corruption section.

I cleaned up Data Corruption. Instead of lots of articles, it should be one big article, divided into sections.

We're pretty much at the brainstorming stage at the moment. To get ideas down before they're forgotten - so it might be a bit messy. The one thing that need's to be gotten down immediately is some form of standardisation. (As in organising articles, naming conventions, what to link, etc).

Heh, I'm too caught up with trying to write up something to describe the standard pistol (and not putting too much extraneous information into it) and getting and sorting data for the weapon comparison tables to write up everything I'd been planning to (rather enlightening this one - did you know that the laser rifle is equal to the weight of a loaded standard pistol? Oh and my favourite weapon the laser pistol is also the least accurate weapon in the entire game (but man is it fast!)? Fun stuff!)

I also have a few reservations about putting XComutil information into the main entries. But it does indeed deserve a whole section to itself, with notes on the various changes and additions it brings to the games.

could xcomutil maybe get implented some way of having transformers or alien ships as standard??
in general discuss of x-com games there are some save games.

Ah, a community section, including in-jokes. Might want to add Alt.Games.X-Com's 'cheese toasties' and the Golden Toilet that I see mentioned all the time here (but have absolutely no idea what it's in relation to) as well. ;) (unfortunately only long-time AGX readers might get the cheese toastie reference)

Then there's the fabled 'Sectoid pornography' ... which was only mentioned in passing many years ago.

Though fun, let's concentrate on fleshing out the main sections first.

P. S: For those that don't know alt.games.x-com - you use to have to read it via a newsreader - which can be obtained separately or come included as a function built into a number of modern e-mail programs, but you also needed a usenet server to feed off as well that picked up alt.games.x-com, which could be hard as not all ISPs have usenet servers anymore. Luckily you can use Google to read it on:

Not as active as it was several years ago, but I still pop in from time to time to read new articles (like updates for XComutil and whatnot).

The unit rank glitch doesn't just turn up with 'Unit in Target Exit'. It can come up with anything that's currently in memory. I had an odd soldier with the rank of 'Sectoid Commander' at one time. (Edit: Let me clarify. It was a sectoid, but the rank was 'sectoid commander'. Confusing? Just as confusing when I mind controlled an alien and it showed the rank with part of the name of one of my soldiers, and some corrupted graphics for text)

I think really odd user caused glitches really shouldn't be encouraged. (I mean copying of files between the games)

Oh well. It's starting to snowball now. ;)

New discoveries... i discovered Units in Target Entrance and found out it is primaly used by soldier while Units in Target Exit is normally used by terror units. theese 2 ranks r tftd if you discover a new rank please add it to the glitch rank section.


edit: shuckeroonies mispelled entrance entrace -_-
btw big terror units has no rank... at least the hallucinoid doestn.
technicians are commanders and squad leaders are captains.

i reasarched more and got to the conclusion.
big terror units has no rank
small terror units has Units in Target Exit
as a rank.

beside ive made a GREAT discovery!!

units placed in wrong areas gets ufo names!
for example tentaculat on land is named chrysallid in tftd!!
this is done by using rpl in xcomutil.

Tentaculat(on land):Chryssalid
Triscene(underwater):Reaper
Calcinite(underwater):Floater
Bio Drone(underwater):Silacoid
Hallucinoid(on land):Sectopod
Xarquid(on land):Cyberdisk
Lobsterman(???):Ethereal


i made a rar with screenies... im currently still researching this once i know more it gets placed in the wiki.

I still have to research more... but soon the method of hacking a perm alien is comming... all i need is a hacker... or just some that can edit the recovery days of the unit with the ethereal armor.

Hi folks!

Can someone tell me how/whether we can upload stuff besides images to the wiki? The Upload link says it's also for e.g. "documents", but if I try to upload a zip or Excel file, I get an error that it's not an image.

If we can't upload there, what would be the best place to put something so it's always available for the wiki?
