Ship Self-destruct

Hey...how about a nice remote self-destruct button?

If all operatives get killed during a mission(which is a possibility, albeit my super squads never fail :D) the transport could blow up.(in the original game you would lose the ship either way.Someone at the base could do this...I sure hope the cleaning personnel don't push the wrong one when dusting the instalations :explode: ). heck..If all of my men die I don't want those damn aliens to analise my technology nor do I want to see my brand new avenger for sale at Ethereal Jack Used Ships Emporium....

Just an idea for added realism, though..not a big gameplay issue...

Well, in a terror site, most of the civilians are dead anyway (if your team was killed off) so I don't imagine that it would hurt too much...

Besides, do you want to see your shiny new avenger lying on the alien base's chopshop floor? :)

I got a better idea, how bout if your really doing good in the alien ship, but your taking a while, (an it was an undamaged landed, or had at least one reactor left) the surviving aliens could rig their ship to blow sky high, taking all the E-115, guns, and your best rookies with it. maybe you'd have a coupla turns warning to get out. On a related note, maybe you'd be able to remove the fuel during the tactical game, shut down the enemy power sources, so they cant blow you up plus if you withdraw, they cant fly away. Of course you'd have to have researched Power Source.

I just thought it was more likely they'd blow themselves up than you blowing up your own avenger/base.

But that's just me...

no way! Elerium 115 is hard enough to get enough of as it is, no blowing UFO reactors please :whatwhat:

...or only in superhuman difficulty

I never seem to have enough elerium.

That's wierd, I always seem to have too much! If you let the UFOs land (which they always do, except for retaliation) you will always get Elerium. As long as you go easy on the rocket launchers and grenades, you'll have more than you would know what to do with! :D

I have 2,000 Elerium to spare, in my Beginner game. I don't have any money to build anything, though... :hammer:

--Edit: I think the aliens would only blow up their ship if it'll never fly again. It'd give some incentive to go easy on the Avalanches. --

well, just to clarify, I ment if there's like two aliens left and all the other's were horribbly killed. Then the aliens realizing that they're going to die, decide to take a few damn dirty apes(people) with them. But if it's a fully loaded battleship packed full of mutons, they'll just laugh whie they kick your donkey back to the stoneage

perhaps only allow the option when attacking alien bases.

Like out of stargate: We have the utmost confidence in your success, but just incase, we want you to take this tactical nuke with you.

This would provide a viable reprieve if the player was loosing.

True he could also send a skyranger with one rookie to the base and blow it up, but that would cost a rookie, and a skyranger, and of course he would ahve to think about the stuff he wouldn't get (elerium/alien commander's etc.)

Version 1+ could even have an option in the buy screen for a small nuclear device ($1.5m) so that the player could buy his way out of a bad month with the funding nations by blowing up a lot of bases.

Thats not a bad idea, I like it.

Or place it on a plane and if it's too much damaged you could ram the ufo and take it down with the nuke.

Yeah, I'm so rich, I can defeat the entire alien menace by ramming their UFOs full of nuclear Avengers. :D

Hmm... if there were agents aboard, do you get to do a mission mid-flight? Half a turn would be neat, just as the nuke goes off. :explode:

the disadvantage of course would be no alien technology, so its a win/lose situation which is actually quite balanced

why do this when you can buy a tactical cruise missile ($500,000)

How about (EXAGERATING  ) a N-Bomb. We shoot it to the alien base destroing all aliens but since the N-Bomb doesn't destroy buildings.... VOILA!! ^_^ A new alien base at you disposal. U could take some schematics of new wep's then take to the bases for research. But then again... raiding alien bases would be too easy. -_- Edited by Black Dash

You mean a neutron bomb? Well, alien bases are underground, right? And they are coated in alien alloys (which I presume can resist radiation because they are used in space ship construction) so a neutron bomb wouldn't be that effective. Remember that in space, there is all sorts of radioactive crap floating around.

The "radiation" in outer space includes high energy particles, so if alien alloy walls keep that stuff out in the UFOs, then they should also shield from neutrons (at least somewhat).

Yeah! it would be more of a Gamma ray bomb that could do that. ^_^

I got another idea, the UFOpedia and everything'll talk about how effective the gamma-bomb will be, but when you set it off, it just turns all the aliens into Mutons.

considering all the current tech talk about xenium, I wouldn't want to imagine what happens if you set off a bomb that produces ANY kind of radiation inside an alien base with its two or more power sources... the resulting burst of energy would probably have effects far worse than the bomb itself, even if it's a neutron or atomic fission bomb. and I guess we all agree that those are Bad Things, and that the one organization trying to save earth is not going to use them, don't we?

Guest KillZone

"How about we go down to the Armoury, get one of the Nukes, strap it to my head an Ill headbutt the smeggers into OBLIVION!!"

:devillaugh: Thatd be soooo sweet...

Considering the base is underground, nukes wouldnt kill too many people...plus one man taking out half an Alien base on turn one is pretty cool...

Suicide Bombers come under selfdestruct right?
