revenant4
I'll make this short and sweet...we need a replay button at the end of a battlescape which saves the battle in both multiplayer and single player...watching others getting dominated on multiplayer is half the fun... Deimos
I suggested this a while ago. Glad I'm not on my own in thinking it'd be pretty cool to watch the battle in realtime at the end ala Gran Turismo
j'ordos
I would like that very much, just be sure to have some controls to manipulate the replay (fast forward, stop, rewind,...). That sounds obvious but in some games they're not implemented, and it's very annoying if there are several turns without anything happening, like when hunting the last alien down... miceless
Yeah, and the ability to choose who to follow too. If the battle is going on in the UFO, you dont want to be following the tank who sitting outside doing nothing.
GreatGold
Hey - Completely agree with this. In fact, i really think it is a must. If we want to have community competitions and ladders, we are going to need to see proof that people didnt cheat (hard to do with an open source project). This would be the best way. They would have to submit a save file, and the replay file. It should have all the options above, without doubt. Now, if you could do it both turned based, and then make it into a realtime replay, that would be too cool. Especially if you could make it have a "free" camera that you can move around and rotate at will. Imagine the fan movies that could be made that way... .oh the possibilities. Likewise, the replay option should also be coded with "learning" in mind. What I mean is, suppose you play with a clan online, and you do a really interesting mission. It would be great if there was away to draw arrows and circles, or notes, so that the people that what it would be seeing more of a de-breif. What do you guys think?Gold
miceless
I like the idea of the debrief. Whether that would actually be possible or not I dont know.
GreatGold
You know when your watching a sport, and the commentors start drawing out a play on top of the action, thats what I meant by drawing and making notes and stuff. Just to make that clearer. Gold
miceless
Yeah, i understood. But how you would implement that in the game I dont know.
Guest drewid
I think replays are a great idea. you could have a snap replay button that appears after some spectacular kill (like worms). "Rewind to beginning" should be OK. especially given the turn base nature of the game, saving states at the beginning of a move, then playing the inputs through. There may be problems with running a replay in reverse though. There are reasons that this is often not implemented. This need to be coded in from the start, and even then it isn't always a trivial thing to do. Visual and sound effects, physics and timed/triggered events are all potential problem areas. It might be best to avoid this.
Guest Jim69
If all one sides turn based moves are replayed at the same time it may look OK, but otherwise it's just gonna look like a gigantic game of chess. I guess I'd have 2 see it first I spose, but it could look really strange given the turn based system.
