Shinzon
How about something like a graveyard... so everydead soldgier will get a generic grave ( each grave is the same) and possobly after you are done the game or close to cydonia raid you can go there and think ... i didnt waste THAT many rookies... should be fairly easy to implement and could work something like the medals and stuff i saw discussed else where... Tsereve
Sounds cool, but what would the point be? Why not just a screen telling you how many soldiers you lost, UFOs missed, UFOs shot down, missions won, missions lost, etc?
Shinzon
well it could say that also but there is a quote: "one death is a tragity, one million deaths is a statistic" do give you a visiual sence of the true losses because all the soldgers that died in UFO defense TFTD and apoc are sort of forgoten sure im going oh god damn there goes my veteran but after a few new recruits thats it. just imagine it you start up the game there no graves there then by the end all you see is white crosses... and it also could display the casualties you took... how much is lost where... possobly when... because as said erlier once your past the mission debrief screen there is no evidence of the soldgier ever existing Edited January 2, 2005 by Shinzon
j'ordos
I think the plan was to have some sort of mission history (for individual soldiers at least), but I'm not entirely sure about the statistics for the entire game. Would be a nice feature though, although the green hill with white crosses reminds me of Cannon Fodder just a little Besides, casualties officiallynever existed, ordied somewhere else (not in XCom duty of course)but a screen tallying up the score would be fun
mikker
also: i tihnk religeous things are a no-no. Crosses are out.On a diffrent note, a statistic view of all the soldiers missions and such, have been proposed.
Tsereve
A graveyard wouldn't work, what about those soldiers that I--that the aliens disentegrated with a blaster bomb?
[Blehm 98]
yeah, but everyone uses crosses... it's more traditional, and it looks better to see a huge field of white crosses than a huge field with ugly gray tombstones
Shinzon
in hte colectors edition along with the manuals came a pdf file with a never finished "book" that said everyting related to the x-com project was unclasiffied right before TFTD and at the very end there was even an add for an alien musiem with quotes like: "see the waks replcas" "wield the blaster bomb of a fallen muton" "even enter a REAL UFO" u had to click you wanted to intsall the manuals.. i never did until i got a craving to play it 4 days ago... and i couldnt get it to work and reinstalled it 3 times... and eventualy bumped into the manuals less talk more attching... edit* My spelling is most horrid... edit by j'ordos : posts merged, few posts deleted, attachment removed (see post below)
sir_schwick
A couple easy things to implement. Each base would have a 'Memorial Wall' On it would be the name of every soldier that had died in combat who was stationed at that base when they died. Simple white on black stone would be good. Once you have destroyed the overmind on Cydonia, you would set up a cemetary there. Every soldier(body recovered or not) would get a grave with an X-CORP marker on the soils of Cydonia. Then a quote would come up, along with a picture of the wrecked pyramids saying something like, "They died in the service of humanity."

Tuoppi
How about a scrolling namelist in endgame movie? "These brave soldiers sacrificed their lives for humanity" Uta berger Manfred Sieger Daniel Jackson ...
Garo
As j'ordos said, this sounds like the one what Cannon Fodder (the game) had. In the startup screen, every dead marine was burried into the hill and you could see how the grave hill was groving... Here is a screenshot I found from google. There is just a few graves, but there will be hundrets of more in the later game... http://web.vip.hr/thitri.vip/no20/cannon1ve.jpg - Garo
GARAK
I would like to see their names listed like credits with their ranks and # of kills. It shouldn't be during the credits though, that's to honor the people making the game, not imaginary people.
Nanosystem
Doesnt have to be a graveyard... Even a memorial you could put in one of your bases. It could provide a morale bonus to all your soldiers.
