Anyway, My least favorite enemies have to be tentaculats. They can fly and kill your men in one hit! Lobstermen are overrated imo, I don't really fear them.

first i say something... chrysalids and tentaculats are the same thing...
so this cheat works in all games ecept apoc of course.

Requirements:1:mc distruptor 2:an aquanaut skilled with mc

i know this is hard.. but take any guy ecept the one with mc and let him ebe zombiefied by a tentaculat... the use mc till you control the zombie shoot it while you control it... the new tentaculat is yours... for the whole mission... after that the aquanaut become himself--- so if you find in a a situation where one of ur best aquanuts is controlled... just use this chea... but you need mc.

so i say that xarquid/triscene(the same just on land) and their damn good reaction is the winner. Edited by Gurluas2000

Triscenes are so rare that I don't hate them but Xarquids really are a pain in the butt because of their unbelieveble reactions..

Lobstermen aren't even on my top 4 list for most hated aliens.
1. Tentaculat- These things are monsters. I hated the chryssalid in Xcom, and now they fly!
2. Bio Drone- These things are nasty, they have great accuracy, and they are only one space, so that they can hide in closets (where there is nowhere to run from their explosion) so your only real chance is to hit em with a hth or stun weapon!
3. Xarquid- You gotta hate their inhuman reactions
4. Deep One- Yup, I hate the deep one. Even magnetic ion armor doesn't seem to stop his weapon, and I hate the deepone on a personal level (he is butt ugly.)

My most hated alien is whatever alien that gives me the most grief during any given campaign.

Lobstermen - are very hard to kill, but they go down in a matter of time. Good thing they have a weakness for stun and drill weapons.

Tentaculats - they're flying chryssalids. What more do you need? They've got tough front armour, so you should shoot them in the flanks and rear. Luckily, they're water-bound.

Biodrone - Small. Explode if killed with ranged weapons. Insane snapshot accuracy on superhuman (they can't miss) - making them lethal if they get off reaction shots against unarmoured soldiers. Pity they give themselves away on the map.

Triscene - Their firing accuracy levels are mad. Mad, mad mad. Luckily, they have a chink in their armour. Their under armour is particularly vulnerable to attack.

Aquatoid/Gillmen - not so difficult, but their high ranking units have psi. Bad at first, but easy to avoid once you can evaluate your troops defenses.

Tasoth - brutal psionics, but once you get around that, they're easy enough to deal with.

Deep-Ones - in and of themselves, they are easy to deal with. But as has been mentioned, they've got a strong attack. Just be thankful the AI never seems to use their 'auto' attack.

Calcinites - land version of the tentaculat. It doesn't impregnate its victims, however. Dangerous to the unprepared, but very rewarding. They're sharp. They're auger-ate!

Hallucinoid - has rather heavy armour. Easy to deal with, but if they get up close to you, they're brutal.

Anyone carrying a DPL launcher - Die! These are just unfair. (Especially on that first T'Leth mission - where that's almost all the aquatoids carry)

Yes Bio Drones are a pain in the butt!
What comes to aquatoids in first level of T'leth, they didn't shoot even once with DPLs when I played it through as superhuman.. The whole T'leth is a joke (->TOO easy)

They use their auto attack on me all the time, except that none of my guys survive the first hit! :D

Tasoths also seem pretty hard. They are like slightly less psionically inclined etherials with boosted health to compensate.

Calcinites are sneaky. The first time I saw one, I thought it was a civilian or something, so I didn't shoot it. Next turn, I hear a ripping sound, and then I see "Squaddie Bob Dodo has been knocked unconcious." Next turn, "Squaddie Bob Dodo has died of critical wounds" ! :)

Halluconids (sp?) are really easy, I usually just run up to them and drill them to death with my thermic lance.

Aquatoids with DPLs aren't that bad, if you have psi. With Psi you can turn their advantage into your advantage!
Plus, I have all my men fly in mag ion armor asap, so they don't have to worry about that crap anymore.

Well, I'm not entirely sure about the deep-one's auto attack.

You see, their attack all fire in arcs - even when you mind control them. But when you fire the gun in auto, it fires the 'bullets' in straight lines as if it were an ordinary sonic weapon. I've never quite seen AI controlled Deep-ones use anything but the arc attacks. That's what gave me the idea that they don't use it. But it might just be that the AI can arc auto-shots while the player can't. Ah well. (interesting note for those who don't know: the AI only uses auto-shots when your soldier is at least 4 or less tiles away from it. This probably applies to UFO more than TFTD since it has more auto weapons)

I just realised something. The deep-ones are perhaps among the few aliens in the game that have an auto-fire capable sonic weapon (which is pretty lethal in single shots as well). I want one!

re: Hallucinoids

Even though they're technically flying reapers (and they are easy to kill with area effect weapon), they don't really go down that easily wiht some HTH weapons. It dosn't really look like it, but along with the Xarquid, they've got the toughest external armour in the game (even more than the lobstermen - but they lack the natural 1/2 damage modifier the lobstermen get). It takes a lucky high damage roll with vibroblades, though it's easy-peasy with the heavy thermic lance.

Like the reaper, they're nasty when they catch you off-guard. Apart from that, yeah, they're not too difficult to fend off. More annoying than dangerous.
According to the UFOpedia, hallucinoids are supposed to have a ranged weapon, but I don't think they EVER used it, is that the same thing as with the deep one perhaps?
Yes I always wondered that too. Ufopedia says it has some kind of ranged freeze attack AND close combat attack of some kind but I have never seen them doing anything except in close combat.

And then only when I deliberately ran up with one guy to a couple of Hallucinoids, not shooting at all...
Still took those overgrown jellyfishes several turns, and 2 of them died because of my reaction fire before they killed him  Edited by j'ordos

I hate Bio Drone and Lobster.
Lobsters are just hard-to-kill. Bio Drones? I always encounter them in small spots and narrow rooms. No way to run. If their shot doesn´t kill me their explosion does... Nasty evil creatures! <_<

I just remembered. Take a look at the Usopedia entry for live deepone and the Pulse Wave Torpedo (craft weapon.) Notice a resembelence? They not only have an automatic sonic gun, but one that looks just like a PWT!

Yes, that's true. Before I researched deep one, I thought it "spits" or something but then I saw that picture and thought "what the heck?"

The deep one's depicted as carrying a craft PWT cannon. Triscene also have two strapped to their sides, which have been refitted to fire sonic beams.

Why are they still standing? Aquaplastics, like alien alloys, are supposed to be light (at least, that's what I assume). But I didn't think they'd be that light!

And why don't those weapons make really big booms? I think that the image for the PWT was supposed to be something else, like a personell weapon, but they ran out of time so they had to make it a craft weapon too! :)

I would have to say that the Lobstermen are my worst enemies. I responded to an attack on a shipping route on an Expert game and after clearing the upper decks I had lost two of my ten men to lobster attacks. I went to clear the lower decks, which was fairly easy until I encountered six lobster in the engine room. They rushed my squad and killed the two soldiers who had just entered through the doors. This happened at the beginning of the second month of the game all I had researched was Gauss pistols, rifles, sonic pistols and only 3/4's of my squad had aqua-plastic. Everyone except two of my soldiers had been wounded.

Die Lobstermen!!

As far as I can tell, Deep One Terrorists and Calcinite Terrorists definitely give access to the lab.

The Deep-Ones are the better bargain, as they are also part of the very important Ion armour research (even if you don't use it, it leads to the Leviathan, half of what you need to win the game). You only need the corpse of a calcinite to get vibroblades.

The best thing to do is capture the one that shows up first at the earliest opportunity.

I don't recall if bio-drones and the other large terror units allow M. C facilities, but there's probably no harm in finding out.

I completed the evil Aquatoid terror mission without a single loss and acquired a number of calcinite corpses. I've now researched vibroblades and they seem to work well against most things.

However, just two days later I came across a cruise ship terror mission. I aborted the mission after losing one guy and having lots of others wounded, but managed to capture me a lobsterman navigator, technician, soldier, squad leader, and several bio-drone corpses. I just need to do some research now :) Edited by Wild Cat M

BioDrones: For fitting in close quarters and exploding whenever they want (I've seen biodrones go KABOOM even when I used Thermal Shock Launchers on them).

Xarquids: For their unbelievable reaction fire and their huge armour that allows them to exploit it to full effect (let me fire three rounds of gauss rifle at you, oh you don't die, so I'm dead now...)

Tasoths: I just don't like them. They are ugly and they are the only race that truly looks alien. They also have a nasty bug that's "special" for their race. What more do you want?

Lobstermen: I LOVE EM. Come on guys, they are pad pad padding all over the place, you fire 6 rounds of gauss rifles into their face and they still go pad pad padding, they are SO CUTE. You keep raining them with blaster fire and they still wander around the place. They are dumbest of all races. And all the races except the lobstermen have at least one disgusting sound effect.

Triscene: Scared me the first time I saw em, it's like "Hmm let me see what's in this corridor" and suddenly "OMFG!!!! INCOMING HUGE DINO!!!". But they are cute (and move extremely fast, which makes them cuter).

Tentaculats: Just annoying. Tentaculats are there as a "cap". You see, there needs to be an alien that will still cause you minor trouble even when you are FAR in the game and have all the super items and soldiers. Tentaculats always keep you on the edge. :)

Tentaculat's. They come from no where, and turn half my men into zombies, go into another room, disappear, and after spending my TU's looking for it, remember they can float....(death from above)

lobsters aren't so bad. They just don't like to die. It really feels bad when you see a lobsterman, and 40 sonic rifle shots and 60 guass rifle shots, the thing plops over and faints

lobstermen are ok. see my post @ "TFTD Mission loss" (pinned, TFTD general).
It's gilmen I hate. . .whenever i go to one of their terror missions, 1/2 a dozen are waiting on a roof-top right outside the triton door. and when i grenade them, it blows out the stairs, and i cant get to any survivors! :cussing:
Link to comment

No stairs? No problem! Gas cannons can save you a lot of trouble there. Arm them HE shells and fire up at the ceiling and voila, dead aliens.

For those on the roof, you've got sonic pulsers which you can toss up there.

If you don't mind cheating, just throw the grenade through the ceiling. If throwing grenades through the ceiling weighs too heavily on your conscience, you can always make a hole first and it'll no longer be considered 'cheating'. :)

So, grenades and GC-HE will solve most of your access problems in port missions where stairs are involved.

GC-Phosphor can also be useful if there's a lot of material that can be burnt. Like boxes, beds, lamps, doors, etc.

By far the Bio Drone is the most annoying thing I have ever fought. So good a hitting my guys all the way across the narrow hallway, Even better at not getting shot. They fly! Then when ya do kill them, they blow up and all your dreams go with it. Not fair.

lobstermen- SO over rated. You shoot at them from a far, it dies and sounds like an elephant going down, we laugh and break out some melted butter. althought I have to admit I have had some hateful hateful moments where I said many an obscenity. I knocked out a lobsterman commander and I was running for dear life with my last guy to the drop point, when all of a sudden he wakes up and claws the life outta him...Dude that is not cool :cussing:

Try killing a ship of lobstermen, with sonic and gauss rifles(xcomutil enhanced) only, with only a couple sonic pulsars, and you will see that they do indeed take forever to die. Even though i only lost one 1 guy on that mission, and it was night, but it took my whole squad to finally knock one out at point blank

Don't be biased. You're not too old yourself.

As for my least favorite alien: Biodrones have to take the cake. Lobstermen I can deal with, Tentaculats I can carve up with a thermic lance, but Biodrones are pure evil. I mean, they are accurate, can fly, have high health, AND they explode (Especially before you've got HTH weapons.)

hmmm, i don't misspronounce or misspell many words wrong. as for biodrones, i hate them too, but i usually have bigger fish to fry. One strategy is, if you land a grenade on a building next to them, it will explode, and may kill it even though it is floating 3 squares away.
Link to comment

Biodrones, surely! They always stay in some room in ship missions, zapping anyone who opens the door. and if they don't get zapped, they die with the BIG BOOM :whatwhat:
their explosive nature has also been the cause of many crucial stairs, elevators and damn good soldiers going bye-bye :cussing:
