Isochron

Hey,

I'm the lead dev on Isochron (JSeuss Game Blog). It's an iPhone game heavily inspired by the original XCom games. It takes it's own twist on the story and game content, but the gameplay will be very familiar to XCom veterans. Most importantly, I've directed the dev efforts to try to keep the 'feel' of the originals. I know a lot of folks really enjoy taking this genre to 3D - but for me that's just too distracting and doesn't feel right at all.

A lot of work has gone into recreating isometric 2D sprites and graphics and I'm really happy with how it's turning out.

The isometric view is very close to being playable (and damn fun) with physics based ballistics, Line Of Sight, lighting, a full turn system and a complete inventory system:

Before the tactical parts get finished though, work is being done on the 'geoscape' with base management components too:

So that's a quick glimpse of Isochron for iPhone (and iPod Touch, iPad and Mac OS X). There's still a lot to do so I'm taking fan input very seriously to make sure I end up with the best retro-feel XCom games out there. Head on over to the JSeuss Game Blog to have your say or to check out some of the older screenshots and videos of the work in progress.

Thanks!

Do you have plans for pc version as well? And will it be freeware or shareware?

A PC version isn't on the cards just yet. It's not totally out of the question but it would be a bit of effort to port all the low level functions to windows. And it seems most of the fan base so far seems to have at least an iPod Touch so it's not a priority at the moment.

If enough people feel strongly about it I'll do something about it..

As for shareware, there are plans to have a lite version of the App on the App Store and a free Mac OS X version that will allow you to play one limited mission and start a limited number of basic multiplayer games against your friends. Beyond that I'll be asking people to pay a small fee for the full version so I can recoup some of the development costs and keep the online server running for multiplayer games.
