ehh... what about if ethereals commanders and leaders might be able to resurrect their troops (psionics) for a short time, if they look at them.

Why resurrect the whole body (which definitely requires much power and concentration), while you can "lift" the fallen gun and "psi-push" the trigger?!? You won't even get killed that way :wink1: :D

I agree with kafros here, and it would make for a great mode in the harder levels. Your soldiers blast through a UFO, killing 3 Etherials instantly, then they kneel and wait for the next turn. Suddently, the weapons of the dead Etherials rise and massacre all your soldiers! Err, maybe a bit too difficult then. Reaction fire would be useless.
Justice will be dispensed by cannonade and cutlass, and all manner of remorseless pieces of metal.

Take one more step, and I swear, I will kill you so hard you will die to death.

What about psi negation? Ethereals try to psi control the weapons, but X-Com soldiers negate the psi forces, and the weapons fall on the ground again... ^_^

Reanimation could work though :) imagine it - less psi attacks, but more HP attacks... hmmm

From my point of view? who said that? Psi Control does not even seem like magic.

the Etherials are using reanimation techniques on their own bodies. The leaders might be so good at it, that they can do at at a, albeit short, distance.

Makes sence to me.

You can make a dead frog's leg twitch with electricity. Psi would probably work, unless you believe the EM radiation psi theory presented in the Psionics thread.

I don't like the idea of psi resurection at all. Not at all. I don't even understand how the aliens resurected in the first game. I didn't have a problem with it then because of the movie "the day the earth stood still." The alien guy dies in that and Gaut, the robot, takes him back to his flying saucer and resurects him. I just don't like the idea of it during combat. Not to mention, it happens with all the races, not just the ethereals types.

I guess what you are referring to is actually not resurrection, but just aliens waking up who were only stunned... afaik there never was any resurrection in the game.

I think it would be a nice idea. it should be limited, of course, perhaps only one or two resurrected aliens per ethereal commander, and they would have to drop dead again as soon as the commander is unconscious/dead.

as for plausibility, I think all has been said: ethereals support their own bodies via psi powers, so why shouldn't the more powerful ones be able to support other alien's bodies, too? it would only work for a certain time, before the bodies would decay, but probably long enough to last a battle.
I doubt, therefore I might be.

Well, SUPPORT of their own body is very different from CONTROL/"RESURRECTION" of a whole DEAD body (+ their own).

Not really - just the commander would have to psi control the dead body, and psi-support it.

Technically it'd be kinda difficult... the Commander should be unable to move, etc. whilst controlling the "dead" body, because of the psi-effort required. If the commander dies, the dead body "dies" again.

If they can do it, X-COM should be able to do it as well, though. :D

Technically, if you fitted up the "meatsack" with a load of mechanical joints, etc. and some implants to allow it to be remote controlled, you've technically just turned a dead man (or woman) into a robot/zombie.

X-com soldiers can't levitate by the power of their own mind, can they?

mabe they dont resurect the body... but more use it as a puppet?

but then againg... it would be easier to psi levetate a primed greneade in the middle of a squad...

Shinzon got my point :)

If Psi-power (even if it has to be "improved" to Ethereal-Commander-level) is able to manipulate a "meat-puppet", wouldn't it be FAR EASIER and EFFECTIVE to levitate/manipulate special forks made by alien alloys?
And, if you wanna say that "aliens don't have forks", then just imagine a metal piece with this shape: ----^_^

My last comment: Although Resurrection is a nice idea, it will greatly imbalance the game, it will screw-up the sci-fi/hi-tech feeling, and isn't really rational
And just re-think about that: Why move a whole body and not a fork, which is far faster and can easily kill, cut an arm, or blind some1? "It is metal. Matter. It needs far more psi-power". Well, our body is matter, it's carbon, calcium, hydrogen, oxygen for the most part :P. And, it has ferum, so there isn't much difference with a "fork" :P

Ugh, ressurecting?
theres zombies already, just leave it at that

I like the idea of dead puppets mind, however them using weapons would just seem stupid, maybe if they use the dead bodies as a kinda dud target, basically making it harder to decide which on to shoot at, and using them as a shield to protect themselves, if this is even considered, it would be best if an ethereal can only raise one dead body, and the body *floats* like its being carried by an unseen force

I got this idea when i was eating an orange...

Why not reserve advanced Psi powers for the "Mother Brain" on cydonia? beacuse its sopposed to be a super powerfull psi being controlling thousands of aliens... and it cant even protect itself?

I mean its really funny pistoling that thing at the end... And if it is that powerfull i think that it can sevre the controll with a couple of aliens to atleast push the soldier away or even fling a corpse...

Anyone agree?

As far as I know, the brain "thinks", sends out a directive, and the cybernetic implants "do the job".... :wink1:
But, this idea seems very interesting :D
Anyone else agree?

let me get back to the original idea: I think a lot of people here are confusing "telekinetic powers" with "psionic control powers (as used in te X-Com games)"

of course the ethereals should not be able to levitate bodies around, that's telekinesis, and in that case it woud of course be far easier to lift grenades or sharp objects.

the resurrection thing would be more like psionically stimulating the nervous system of a body that has stopped functioning on its own. it would only work on recently-deceased organisms, and only for a short time. and why should an ethereal commander be unable to move while doing this? they are the most powerful psi-using entities known to us (except for the brain on cydonie, possibly). surely they could do this just like that. The only thing that should be taken into consideration is that it would make them even more powerful... they already turn your own troops against each other :) but it would be an option for higher difficulties, and for shocking a player who has only soldiers with really high psi defense powers :D

Thatīs the point, by the way that if i have a high powered psi team with heavy lasers, ethereals are a little more than nothing... so only for difficult levels.

Also, the psi effort to resurrect a body can only be done if the etherel leader or commanders LOOKS the body all the turns, and spends half of his own TUīs.

I think that if a commander/leader ressurrects another ethereal - LOS is essential - 15 square range limit? Also, any action taken with ressurrectee use up its OWN TUs, but at 2x rate. Initial ressurrection costs 1/2 of Commander's TUs.

Sound about right for balance?

Why limit the resurrections, unless you blow the alien bits of goo, the body (if still in one piece) could be manipulated at will by the nerve controlling race.
Simply a 1/2 TU cost for mind initiation, and 2x's tu for controlled being's movement.
Like was said earlier. :ar15: :crying1: (Won't work)
:devillaugh: >>>reanimate>>> :blink2:

Then tactics comes into play, kill the etherials or they will simply grab bodies and the fight won't end, unless you blow the body to bits.
:chainsaw: :D (that'll do it)

But as only leader level have ability, just kill them, and THEN the ethereals are stuffed :D Or nick their weapons :) I think that any resurrected ethereals should lose their psi ability and be 100% psi ability so they cannot be MCed - I mean, what are you going to MC?

Erm, I don't like this idea, how the game is based this is all that an uberEthereal could do:
Right after a body dies, you know how they say the brain works for 6 more seconds? Well, If your head didn't get lobbed off it's more like 1 minute, during that time an ethereal with UBER WILL POWER (That's right, will power is all it needs) concentrates all the dying person's energy in getting up and pulling a trigger for the last time. The recoil would knock it over unless it was a laser. This is what I think would be a good idea: feinting death. at the end of a shot, be it snap, aimed or auto, if it connected, but you don't die or go unconcious, you get a dialogue that asks you if you want to feint death. If you say yes you fall over and the aliens think you're dead. When one of your guys goes mia (gets captured implicitly) the aliens learn this skill. OUCH!

Edit, once you feel like it, the person can crouch from the dead position, it should take some TUs though.
