Is This A Remake Or What?!

Well, even though i am not totally involved in the developement of the game or do anything of revelance other than running my mouth(keyboard), I really want someone to answer the TOPIC QUESTION. I first thought you were all just trying to remake XCOM:UFO/ENEMY, with better graphics, sound, multiplayer, etc. But it seems to me that you are totally creating a NEW GAME based partly on UFO/ENEMY. This is actually both a good thing and bad thing since that means that basically whoever the heck has the rights to XCOM can't do jack to you, which gives you more freedom to what you want. But the bad thing is, I see that there are so many new ideas coming out everyday that I personally feel that this game will be TOO DIFFERENT from UFO/ENEMY and may lose its roots from the original. I really don't know if this makes sense to anyone but me, but as a XCOMMIE that has and will always love this game, I really want to see this project prosper and do an outstanding job, but hopefully not TOO much of one that this game itself will be ALIEN to us all.

This has ALREADY been discussed.

 

Xenocide, IS a remake of X-com EU/UD. We are going to make the game as X-com, with better grafics, and such. The thing that i think you see, is that we are making stuff up that is not in the game, and are editing stuff. An eksample is the new cryssaloid designed. It is still a cryssaloid, no other alien, and it can stilll do the cryssaloid zombie trick.

 

Another thing is that alot of people have been *ehem*, angry, at some features in X-com: EU/UD, like all the errors, and that the game gets too easy after a certain time. THIS is what we are editing, but nothing dramatically (not for 1.0 that is).

 

All the ideas in the labaratory are certainy not going though, by the single reason that it ruins the balance between aliens, and humans. If someone screems on the lab that it would be cool to bomb aliens before you land in the skyranger, what is fun then? Nukeing Mars? nah. Giving humans billions of new weapons? If the aliens are longer in the technology development then us, then why should they only have 3 plasma weapons, 2 additional weapons, and a total of 2 misc items (excluded extra ammo)??????

Yes, version1 of Xenocide is intended as a remake of the original game, with very little change in gameplay features. All the ideas in the laboratory are for proposed features, which will be considered after version 1 has been developed. Some ideas are being considered that were not in the original, but only because they enhance the gameplay, but don't really change it. 3D battlescape and the like are the most obvious.

 

Once there's a working game, many of the ideas developed here will be considered, but there will be lots of discussion to balance those ideas with each other and the base game. Like Mikker said, it's easy to toss in something that can be exploited and make the game boring. So before the team spends many hours implementing new ideas, there will lots of talk to make sure it will work properly. Then play testing and balancing, etc.
