Line Of Fire Checker

I often find it hard to tell if soldiers have a line of sight/fire on their targets (especially when shooting through windows and holes in the ground between two levels, etc.)

I was thinking either:

A ) When selecting a target to shoot, a line is drawn from the soldier to the targeting reticle (like a laser sight). The laser stops when it hits an obstacle, so you know if there's anything between you and what you're aiming at.

B ) When you try to shoot somewhere you don't have LoS on, you simply get an error, like in the original XCOM.

I've been screwed over too many times by shooting HE at a guy below me, and blowing myself up, or wasting buckets of ammo and TUs turning a wall into swiss cheese because my angle of attack is slightly off...

A) Press ALT

Hehe, actually discovered that almost immediately after making this post. I knew about ctrl showing how many TUs it takes to move, but the alt function rocks. It's exactly what I was looking for...

Edit: Also, on point B - on second thought, that's not such a great solution. I often use 'auto shot' (such as with a shotgun/auto-cannon loaded with HE rounds to level buildings and cover) anticipating that the first two shots will clear the way for the third (which doesn't always work, but when it does, it's sweet). But if you had to have LoS on a target, you wouldn't be able to do that as well.
