TherilAlPenn
I must be nuts. I have just finished my proof-of-concept video for a little project I'd like to put together. I got the idea from Azrael's forum members on Apocalypse, but what I would like to do is, in addition to getting some names, get some voice clips from the participants and put them in the Battlescape portions. The second episode would be 'meet the cast' where I name the troopers and they can say some stuff, and then play through the game normally, with about one battlescape session per episode. Before I go and post a big list of situations where I would like lines, would there be any interest in this sort of thing? I'm sure my own dialogue will get less lame with practice, by the way. Yes, I know, talking over the loud intro doesn't work well. There won't be an intro in the other episodes, and I'll be sure to balance the audio better in situations with loudness in the future. Also, I know my Battlescape tactics were sad. I was distracted by trying to talk and go quickly. If that leads to funny situations, so much the better. I had some synchronization problems with this run that weren't present when I was running at lower cycles, so I'm going to try 25000 next time, and I'll put in more sync assists in the future. I mostly corrected them with Audacity while mixing the audio tracks though, so it shouldn't be too blatant, and the game sounds themselves should be in perfect sync with the video. Please reply if you have any interest in participating. If you are unable to provide voice (no microphone, perhaps), we might be able to pull something from movies out for you, or use synthesized speech for someone. Participants can also help direct the strategic direction of the game, and naturally get to pick their preferred weapons and roles. I've got dibs on cowering in the back of the skyranger with the mind probe though. Some examples for what I would want for voice clips (actually, in the time it's taking to upload the video, I'm getting something more like a complete list):- Catchphrase- A line about your favorite purchasable terran weapon- A line about your favorite weapon- Sighted alien- Sighted 'favorite type' alien (can have one of these for each type if you want)- Killed an alien- Stunned an alien- Killed/stunned a bunch of aliens- Did something awesome- Got injured- Got killed- Asking for help- Asking for medic- Asking for explosive support (blaster/rocket/whatever)- Throwing grenade- Demolishing walls/terrain- Shooting civilian- Saving civilian- Entering UFO- Running into bad situation- Panicked- Berserked- Mind controlled- Zombified maybe?- Complaining about not having your favorite weapon- Generic WTF/WTH/OMGWTFBBQ- Anything else you'd like to say during a mission, something I haven't covered, jokes, etc. Not everyone would necessarily have to cover all of these. But the more I get, the more fun we can have.Oh! And a few people could double as interceptor/transport pilots too! Maybe That'd be good. Here is the link: <will update when I have a link>...If you have a suggestion for something better than Google video, let me know. If I really get going on this, and do all 3 games (or more likely, just X-Com 1 and Apocalypse), I'll probably get my own hosting, but I wouldn't count on that if I were you - especially since my plan to avoid burnout is to do only one or two eps per week. Sigh, I'm starting to think 'BitTorrent' now... except there's probably not that many people interested to make a torrent worthwhile. That way I could get the high quality version out... (The video is h.264 with mp3 audio. The filesize is about 67.4 MB.) I'm not sure what the best way to get a tracker set up would be though. My IP is relatively static, so I could host the tracker myself, I suppose. I guess if no one is interested I wouldn't need to bother. And no, I don't know what possessed me to do this. Insanity, I assume. BTW, I generally go by 'Justice' or 'JusticePS' throughout most of the interwebs, at least for the past several years. I'm kind of surprised my old name is on this account. UPDATE: Google videos doesn't like my video. Probably the odd framerate or resolution, since they support the codec I used. Here is a temporary torrent link that probably won't work, since I have never tested it before: http://24.17.74.199:6969/torrents/releases...F1586136E753C63
TherilAlPenn
Ah well, total lack of interest I guess. Either that or my post was too long.
Treelor
I really like the idea. When I get home if you want I can start doing voice clips. I like acting. Member of the international thespian society
