How much traffic can micahs server handle? More people sign up, more posts, pictures, downloads, everything.. Soon this will be so popular that hackers starts to bug us with attacks and IRS digs all the skeletons from closets and...

or maybe not..

:whatwhat: IRS? Where? Run! Hide!

Heh, I think its probably entirely at my end, but this website is being really slow today.

What we need to know on any one day/week is how many users are signing up and how many are going inactive. Same goes for posts. That gives you an idea of growth.

How many of signed up people has signed up only to write one post/topic here and then become inactive? I bet it's about 50%

You need a way of listing all the users by their last post date, to see how many of them actually posted (say) this month. Can you do that sort of thing Stewart/Micah? Id imagine so.

Is as customizable as you are able. A lot of people using similar software write there own functions for their own boards and these type of things are exchanged. Micah is always looking for stuff.

But we are straying from Topic, time to split.

To answer all the questions in order....

xcomufo.com's server sports unlimited bandwidth and the capability to serve several thousand users at once at a very nice speed with at least 99.9% uptime. Besides, if the forums ever start to slow down, I will simply upgrade the server :) The forums currently take around 133mb of space on the server, plus the 30mb database in the mysql system. It may sound like a lot (or not :P but there is still plenty of room to grow. Also, since the upgrade to v1.2 RC 1, there have been no database errors, even with the increased traffic.

Miceless, aren't you on a 56k modem? Isn't 'everything' slow?

I do have the capability to see when users last posted and last logged in.

The forum tracks the number of registrations, new topics, posts, PMs, and topic views (with all of this at a per day/week/month/year view).

Indeed, J'ordos, a search for my username (MicahDG, not "Micah," as it was taken by some squirt not 20 days prior to my registration) on ibplanet will show that I do hold a presence there, same with ibforums.com.

several thousands at once :o

I did try to search, but as with almost everything there you have to register to use that function (I couldn't even view the member list...) and unless I start my own forum that won't happen

Maybe mods should check out inactive users? Maybe send them an e-mail about this forum and telling them that inactive members will be deleted after one month from this e-mail. The they have whole month time to read e-mail and come here to read/post something.. :huh?:

On the other hand, it's sounds good to have 800+ members :D and if we start cleaning accounts up, I think at least 20-40% of accounts will be deleted.

Bleh! More work for nothing! All web forums have this situation; we're no different. I'm not gonna go nagging people over this.

Nope, good ol' DSL here. Its Egyptian DSL, but DSL none-the-less.

No, we're special.

That makes a change. ^_^ Plus we want to keep out 800+ member status right?

And just because a member hasn't posted for a while doesn't mean they're not reading posts. It's not like the forums are being bogged down with all the dead weight...

Thats why you actually want to look at the Last Visited values.

And why do low activity members NOT count here while they count everywhere else?

They do count here. Its the NO activity members we're discussing.

Maybe I WILL create my own forum... As admin people are bound to show some respect :devillaugh:

like I already said... :hammer:

Well, I think the members should stay as they are, maybe for some reason they return anyway. Like Extralucas, JWH, ... well JWH DID have to create a new account, but that's a special case :hammer:

I'm not planning to delete any of the inactive acounts. It's not like we have too many of them... you should take a look at this site: http://forums.invisionpower.com/ and scroll to the bottom to see the online member list and the forum stats to see what these boards can handle, though I'm sure that one is run on an expensive collocated server or something...

Actually I am planning to download IPB and set it up for myself, just for fun and so that i can then rip it apart. ^_^

Indeed.

Im not saying we should delete any of them, im just curious as to how many there actually are. Just thought we could have an "Active Members in the last <day/week/month/year> option somewhere.
