I was troubleshooting some forum speed issues last night and one of the things I did was disable avatars to see what it would do. I observed that the page loading time has been cut in half. Bandwidth for the forums is in theory unlimited, though unmetered is a more appropriate term. So the bandwidth is not a problem; but rather the page loading time. I don't think the speed issue is originating from the forums. I think it is coming from the virtual server that this site, and maybe 50 other sites, are all sharing. I also disabled some other things. We'll see how it goes. The avatars will be the first thing to be re-enabled, as I personally like them, particularly because it helps me identify, at a subconsious glance, whose post I'm looking at. Any other concerns? There were about 6 other things that I changed in the admin control panel that users cannot control on through their on CP which can speed up the board for everyone.
