XCOMUFO & Xenocide

Re-assurance Questions.

More questions will come up later times during the day, but a few of them are:

When you kill a monster, will it spin around and die on "6 o'clock"?

If you knock out an alien, will it do more than "no sound" when it falls? Because My game actually had sound glitches, so I had to walk up to the alien to see whether it's dead, or not.

Will there be a difference between the looks (on ground) on a dead alien, and a knocked out one?

The chryssalid's are complete morons, they come to my soldiers view, walk around bit (as if reluctant to bite you), then finally bite you. Will they do that again?

I just KNOW the aliens have a better sight than humans, and I hate that. Will other aliens have different/more powerful and variant senses?

Also, it seems that the alien;s stats on their profile have NOTHING to do on how they act in battle. (except time units) Will there be a more accurate (or less glitchy) stats?

You are correct - in the real world - but this is a game. There is no game-logical reason to restrict that information. It does not add to the experience or make for better tactical choices.

I hate when you get that split second message, "John Smith is unconcious". Then I have to walk over to each downed trooper to see if theyare Smith. I wouldn't mind so much if I could simply roll my mouse over them and at least find out their name if not their status.

Good point, still; Unrealistc games are annoying. Its a matter of balance. Im not shure i want to know if a donwned alien is truly dead without walking over it and checking. If it where unconscious it would regain unconsciousness before the end of the mission(most prob.). So its not really a problem anyway. Edited by Qonfused

I'll try to answer these questions, based on what I know. Keep in mind that I'm only one of the writers, so these may be flat out wrong. :D

1. I don't see why. We're using 3d models for our aliens, so presumeably we could have them die any way we want. Although...it was pretty cool in Xcom.

2. That's probably a gameplay balance issue. But frankly, I don't see why we should change it. In real life, you couldn't tell if the alien you just shot is dead or not unless you start poking it with the butt of your rifle. But being able to tell if your guys are stunned or not would be a major help.

3. See above.

4. The chryssalids and all melee aliens are going to be much smarter this time around. You'll actually be afraid of them again...

5. Possibly. We're still deciding stuff like that. Or at least the programmers are. ;)

6. Possibly. We're considering changing the stats. If we do, this question is moot. But if we don't, then It seems likely that aliens will be equipped and their AI scripted to stay closer to race than individual stats. Eg: Greys will be more cowardly than Morlocks.

While it depends on how much time is available, i can see having the unit models vary depending on how much damage they take when they drop. So light damage might result in death/unconscious, while moderate and heavy damage would definitely equal death. The Grey's arms and legs are ripped off by a grenade, you'd be pretty sure it's dead for example.

But ultimately it boils down to how much work it takes. Without enough artists all the extra ideas must be boiled down to the minimum to get the game finished in a timely matter.

As much as you're willing to contribute, recruit! :)

Download a copy of Milkshape 3D and start learning if you haven't already, right? Seriously, these kind of things won't be in the game without more active contributors. It doesn't take long to start making stuff of high enough quality even if you're new to it all.

If you download the Milkshape tutorials, you can learn everything you need to make animated models. I knew nothing about 3D when i started, but was able to learn enough to make models here after a month of casual practice. If I had more time I still would, but real life calls.

Quick Question.... Judging by these questions I would assume there is a semi working version of the game floating around somewhere, but what I have here (Xeno Alpha 4) is only a moddle of the geoscape....

Anyone able to hook me up?

Nope. Xeno Alpha 4 is the most current version, AFAIK. The game is just an alpha tech demo type 'game' at the moment. Oh, and it has some X-Net research entries written by the creative texts department too!

I realized that in X-com, the Aliens don't suffer "Fatal Injuries". Which is crap if they are still alive when they get shot, but Really great if you knock one out. (cause then you can capture it).

So, will the Aliens have Fatal Injuries?

Oh yeah, if you knock an alien out, and it'll revive, will it pick up its guns and start killing everyone again?

If a soldier, or alien gets knocked out, will ALL their stuff fall to the ground? (as usual) Because it doesn't really make sense that the stuff in their belt, shoulder/leg pockets, and backpack just.... Fall out of the body. Though it is useful if you need something from a corpse/ K.O. person.

So, will all the items a unit owns, Drop to the ground when the unit gets knocked out/dies?

"Oh yeah, if you knock an alien out, and it'll revive, will it pick up its guns and start killing everyone again?"

personaly, im opposed to the; knocked out, and 20 secunds later upp and blast stuff up, like in ufo: defence.

If you faint from fatal injuries(or faint at all), you wont be able to stand within the time it takes to complet a tactical mission.

So if it where up to me, the revive factor would be elimenated. It isnt though, so i just have to hope the guys upstairs agree.
