Its a modification of other logo to a XCOM web than never got used.

Looks really good. I like the blue color, green is fine too but could u do with out the green. Or make it darker green.

The original rank icons were nice but I felt they were never really linked to a military feel and as such never really fit in well. TFTD however were much better as they had a marine feel to them.

With that in mind I 've gone through the rank icons and designed them with a military feel in mind. I think that the feel would swing more towards Airforce/Navy than the Army (sorry to all you groundpounders) and have taken that into consideration when designing the rank icons.

I've stuck with the same amount of ranks as to chage that would mean a lot of reworking and gameplay testing. All thats really needed is to rename each rank to fit in.

With that in mind I think the ranks should go:

Recruit - Can be from any rank in previous military but all newcomers to the xenocide project will start at this level (The idea for this came from the SAS). Replaces Rookie.

Specialist replaces Squaddie.

Lieutenant replaces Sergeant.

Warrant Officer replaces Captain.

Major replaces Colonel.

General replaces Commander.

These aren't final, just throwing ideas out.

The icons are quite a bit larger than they would be in the game probably about 400% larger. The colour of the background could change too, maybe an Olive green.

I think that my logo isnt apropiate to the forum, too overloaded, and using black background...
It is only and idea, I can make better versions acordly with some specs.

I prefer commander to general. 

I found a web page t'other day with some really nice rank reference. I'll see if I can find it if ya want.

I wonder why you're biased

Usually sergeant is three stripes but in this case its two. Which was primarily the reason for not naming it as sarge.

If I remember correctly, the 'sectoid' part of the title pic did not originate from xcom.

I am not sure whether it is necessary to have 10 ranks. 6 is more than enough.

Regarding icons, than I would prefer something more distinguished than the number of stripes, different symbols probably. I liked the triangle on the top though.

I guess that something a pretty more different, so you can see it on your guys shoulders on battlescape... You can even try different colours too...

Having a noticeably different rank on the shoulder in the battlescape would be particularly fun in multiplayer, you could target officers to destroy morale of the enemy. :devilsmile:

IMO dark green doenst show up very well. Try Silver. Why dont we use real rank insignias? Most people regonises them alot better, and less desining.

Any bright colour is going to throw the balance of the image out totally. Rank insignia unless for dress purposes aren't meant to stick out like a sore thumb otherwise that would give the enemy something to shoot at

The original xcom never used 'real' insignia so we have to do the same to keep the 'feel'. Anyway I like designing, that's what I do if I don't I'll not have anything to do.

I guess I forgot to add that they are much larger than they will be in game. I'm guessing they'll be around this sort of size where they are seen in the equip screen. I'd say even smaller when actually on the model.

Well if no silver (which is by the way used in real insignias) Make green little brighter or make more variation to gold parts. So they would be more easily regonised.

I think different colors of rank badges would be a good idea, or at least have them significantly different enough to be able to tell from a distance. I would get tired of zooming in to see the badge.

and i do see they follow a partern but i still think you
should add at least two more ranks, as i see it you go
from sergeant to cpatain and from captain to Brig. Gen.
i just believe there should just be a little more eeerr...

create Staff NCO "Non-Commisioned Officer"

We sort of decided on a military style patch not a lot of colour with a large x through the centre. Maverick did a concept somewhere. I was thinking it should have an airforce or marines feeling to it rather than an army style. So elongated triangles and stuff like that. However if you guys want to fire up concepts in here feel free.

Well I threw something together real quick. I'm horrible at photoshop still, so just think of these as general ideas. I personally like the one on the bottom left the best, although it needs an artists touch fro any justice...

But what I really wanted to do, but couldnt get to work, is a combination of these two, so that you had the patch, starfield background, blue orb, and an alien face within the orb, lastly emblazed with the Xenocide name.
