Battlescape Base Defenses.

I think that there should be defenses for the battlescape during base defense. For example, perhaps you build a "Rifle Turret" section that would fire upon foes with machine-gun fire.

You might wonder about how this would be handled, and I think I have an idea about it. You can use a "underlay" which is a "lower" set of structures built beneath existing structures, like hangers. You simply build a "lower layer" item like a regular base building. Each such structure covers one building square.

Each defensive block would have a certain number of defenses, depending on the area the defenses are built in.

Another idea is a new, regular building: the barracks. The barracks would automatically create basic soldiers that can only be used for base defense. Each barracks might create 10, or so guards.(Refer to Jagged Alliance 2 for a somewhat better idea of what I am thinking here.)


The aliens can also have similer defensive propertys for their bases, too.

There has been some discussion about this, but I don't think a real decision was made about it, unless it was concluded to be v1+.

There was also thought about having the base defense missions two-stagers, where the aliens try to rush to the elevator while your troops try to hold them back, and if you did not have troops inside the base if one got trough... :naughty:

But I don't know if there's another thread about it, for now I'll leave this one, but if I find another with the same topic I'll merge them.

I think it was only mentioned in some other thread, so i dont think there is onededicated to it.

These defenses were SO helpful in Apoc - a conversion would be laser defenses and plasma defenses. there is one turret on each corner of the square, and they fire (maybe controlled by player?) when they see aliens.

I think that it was in the missile defense thread/making early base defenses useful thread. We had many of these ideas, but you were the first one to come up with a way to implement them. :beer: I really like your idea of guards! (hope they fight better than ja2 militia though...)
You have some good ideas though, keep 'em coming!
