Ufopedia Entries Draft: Basic Rooms

Upon encouragement from other members of this forum, I decided to start writing up some UFOpedia entries. I wanted to start with something simple, so: Base facilities! Everything that can be built at the beginning of the game: Access lift, living quarters, laboratory, workshop, hangar, alien containment, small & large radar, general stores and missile defenses. It was a little hard because I kept wanting to say "X-Com scientists", but I don't know if we're using that name or WHAT name we're using...anyway, here it is. First draft, of course, so comments welcome. :D

Well, the copyright can only apply to what they registered, which I would imagine is only the X-Com name, so everything else is fair game.

This info might help in writing them up as well, it's the asset list for the 3D models being designed. Drewid wrote up physical descriptions for each facility in there, so you can include major items in your entries.

Copyright applies to body of text. Real names can't be copyrighted but can be trademarked. But if we used all the original names we could be liable under rules of "passing off", that is in "cashing in " on someone elses success and implying that our product was endorsed by the original owner.

So at some point, we'll need to get some ideas for facility names, and once the new versions have been agreed on, we can cut and paste them into your text. For now just use the old names for familiarity.

Also, while we are on the subject of base facilities, why dont we include altitude to a greater effect? For instance, your interceptors can only fly at X altitude until you research something; as well as your radar only picking up thinks up to Y height?

Hey -

 

I think the small and large radars are handicapped enough. And in effect, the Hyperwave Decoder is the upgrade you get upon researching new things.

 

Likewise, you get a firestorm, lightening, and avenger to upgrade your interceptors. I think anymore, at that level of gameplay, would be a tad excessive...

No, I am on about changing the radar systems completely, maybe this isn't feasible, but why don't you have a 100% detection rate for X miles (or km if you want) around the base horizontally, and then have a limit of 5000m on the small radar, 10000m on the large, and then none on the (hyperwave decoder). that would mean that you would see the true extent of the invasion, until the aliens get clever enough to go above the limits; then you have a slight problem. Of course this might take a bit of rejigging; and I am probably rambling, and in the wrong place, so I think i will leave it there....... :wave:
