SupSuper
now that i researched Ion Armour, should i manufacture it to replace Plastic Aqua Armor or is it best to wait for Magnetic Ion Armour to complete researching?or, in other words, does Ion Armour have a big impact on resisting sonic shots compared to Plastic Aqua Armor? j'ordos
Well, every bit of protection you can give your men is useful enough not to pass by, so as long as you don't have the Magnetic Armour yet and nothing extremely urgent in your manufacturing queue, I'd start pumping out those Ion Armour (besides, Magnetic Armour costs a whole lot of Zrbite, which you may find yourself lacking in, then again, maybe not )
Extralucas
(Based on UFO, not sure for TFTD) Magnetic costs you 16 zrbite. Ion costs 5 zrbite. Magnetic has armor higher at about 10 for each part (You know, rear armor, left armor, etc.) and doesn't fly on dry battlescape. Ion is surely far better than Aqua, and more cheaper than Magnetic, so I recomend building Ion Armors.
SupSuper
Zrbite is certainly not an issue, since i have more than i can shake a stick at (1050 i think) and the only thing that uses Zrbite for now is the Sonic Oscillators. besides, i keep visiting the crash / landed sites of large USOs since they're real rich in zrbite.also, since the research for magnetic ion armour has rather quick it is already under production and is extremely handy in crash sites since flying high stops aliens from doing such accurate shots or hitting you with sonic pulsers edit: could anyone get me a screenshot of a soldier with Ion Armour? it's the only thing i've never seen on TFTD Edited October 3, 2003 by SupSuper
j'ordos
Magnetic Ion armor is almost exactly the same as ion armor.Left=Magnetic Ion ArmorRight=Ion ARmor Edited October 4, 2003 by j'ordos
Cpl. Facehugger
Yup, Mag Ion armor has a funny brown backpack on it when underwater (on the battlescape)
SupSuper
yeah, i guessed there wasn't much difference but the UFOpedia shows them as totally different
Cpl. Facehugger
It does? Hmm, they always looked the same to me, except one was shooting, and the other was looking at something. :scratches head and other parts:
SupSuper
thishttp://www.projectxenocide.com/xcomufo/usopaedia/pics/shot0017.jpgand thishttp://www.projectxenocide.com/xcomufo/usopaedia/pics/shot0018.jpgare simply not the same. not in colour, armor bulk, etc.
Cpl. Facehugger
Well, with the color, you need to remember that they are drawn with different lighting effects. Maby they are at different depths, and that is why one appears green? You are right about the armor bulk though, but I don't think it matters much. But they were probably done by different artists. Worm
1050 zirbite? Its not that difficult (if u have time): Dont destroy colonies around your base.Dont destroy supportships from the aliens, but wait until they land at a base. Now attack with your triton. The zirbite is always (except one of the small classes, sry, dont know the english name) stored in the engines. If u shot down the ship, u wont get any zirbite. One time i played tftd, i had over 5000 zirbite and i created a base which only purpose was to store zirbite Well, the armor of ionic armor is nearly equal to the one of the mag ion armor, but much better than aqua plastic. In addiotion, all the tus of your soldiers are either boosted to 80 or 81 after a few missions. I would build ion armor in your place, vor 10 soldiers its only 50 zirbite, only one third of a supportship. But as soon as u have researched mag ion armor, i would upgrade, the flying ability under water is just too powerful to ignore it.U dont need to walk through those tu draining water plants, u can just fly over them.U dont need to walk over hills, u just fly over them.U cant be hit by sonic pulsars anymore.U dont need to take the entrance of UFOs, but u use a grenade to make a hole in the ceiling, and just enter there

SupSuper
One time i played tftd, i had over 5000 zirbite and i created a base which only purpose was to store zirbite pretty well defended, i suppose
ponkan
I've taken to never shooting a USO down (get rid of barracuda's, aliens attack base less), so I reap lots of zrbite. Gets kinda ridiculous when zrbite and aqua plastics take up more than half of my base storage, but it happens everytime.
Tiruas
I've taken to never shooting a USO down (get rid of barracuda's, aliens attack base less), so I reap lots of zrbite. Gets kinda ridiculous when zrbite and aqua plastics take up more than half of my base storage, but it happens everytime. i typically have one or more bases which i consider "manufacturing" to be the top priority of that base. i would probably have 250 engineers with 6 workshops, 1 subpen for creating new subs (and immediately shipping them out on completion) it is not unusual for these bases to carry a constant balance of 1k zyrbite/aqua plastics at all times (even while mass producing things) at present i'm on my 1st TFTD game, SH, however, in xcom 1 i typically had at least 2 manufacturing bases, with radars, & either a squad of 20 rookies for base defense (early) or turrets & repel tech (later)
BlankSlate
How much does that extra 10 armor protect you against, say, a sonic cannon? It seems like you still get one-hit-killed about half the time. When it comes to land terror missions, I usually swap out my magnetic armor for ion armor because it's too valuable and I know half of them aren't coming back. But for sub recovery missions it's a god send. Heck some of the USOs have top hatchs!
