XCOMUFO & Xenocide

"cydonia Or Bust"

Recommended Posts

Hello there,

In Ufo, I've always wondered at how easy it is to get to Cydonia, especially after researching 1 commander.

Will there be more presquites in Xenocide? I would have thought that a tough solid Alien commander would never tell on the location of their ultra secret base.

To keep this game exciting and to not have an easy insta game finish thing, shouldn't the scientists build up a gradual analysis of where they come from? So you would research 10 commanders to determine where they came from: Basically to make this a long war. You may even need to develop psychic technologies to actually pry it out of their minds.. and even that is hard.

Another thing too: When we go to Cydonia, and abort the mission in Xenocide, will we be able to fight back instead of the lose screen? Sometimes I also wondered "Why not launch a second Avenger :P" No doubt the aliens would press the attack further, but thats in the fun of the game right? :)

Dude, i totally agree. Game's end came too easy in X-Com. And sending 2 avengers of troops would have been sweet. A full scale battle at their super base... troops absolutely lining the corridors....afterall this is where the 2k + soldiers have come from since the games beginning..

I always found the ending funny, c, i never use plasma.. but with a burst of hot plasma the brain was destroyed..hehe

I think it would be nice to have a whole second campaign on Mars: build a base, intercept crafts, and canquer 4-5 bases to disrubt the resources to the main base?

I'd like the same thing myself, in terms of the order of finding the last base. I think this info should come from commanders still, but only from commanders residing on other Mars bases that you've taken.

As for taking on that final base, I think you should have as many chances to do it as you have "space craft" to do it, specifically transport spacecraft left.

Even if you lost them all, I still don't think it should be an instant win by the enemy or even an instant loss by you.

I think the taking and holding of territory, be it taking enemy bases for your use or destorying them, or making your own could be a nice challenge. There could even be room for another kind of minimalist game, but from the vantage point of being cut off from Earth and your using whatever assets remain on Mars by teams there.

Not that the term cut off means completely cut off. I'm in favor of different ways to regroup and come back from a losing standpoint.

So long as there are armed soldiers and some means to transport them, you should still be able to mount some kinds of attacks. And only until every vehicle you have to move them or your means to make or purchase more are solidly taken out, should you get the losing end screen imo.

yes. Let's see....

On mars, there is a network of bases. Each control that part of the planet, in terms of mining, alien cloning facilities, silicoid farms, hangers, workshops, research centres, food storages... all such things. You start by attacking the base that the alien commander on each specified (would be chosen at random, and so will the alien base location, but it will always be 3-9 bases away from you, depending on dificulty). If you success in taking the base, you gain control of it. This will be your staging point.

From now on, you can send resources up to fuel your invasion. You can chooce some of the existing things you have, chooce to buy new stuff, or build it (base selectable). You can chooce to send it with a XC-22, or a XC-33, XC-33 would be for larger cargo and tanks. If you don't have that, you can send your own transporter back for it (will take longer, and you won't be able to use it, so only do it if you have more then one).

Meanwhile, you have now staged the first base, and can use your craft (the bases got plenty and plenty of xenium - no need to transport that. You could even chooce to carry some of it back to each, if you are strapped of resources and need it to build new stuff, or need to sell it for $$$) to hunt for ufos to crash. However, they can do the same on you, and they already know where your base is. However, you can't just select your craft to go into that and that terretory - it will be limited to the terretory of your base. To progress, you would have to take over the other alien strongholds in close proximity to your own (those that share borders with yours). You can target the new base without problems, it's location is known when you take the base. (that base is also located at random, but it will end with the main base in 3-9 base captures), but not go ufo-hunting in the new bases region (the craft will be in-bound, so you can only turn it back, or keep forward - a special type of craft movement). When that is taken over, rince repeat.

If you lose your staging base, or any base further along your 'supply line', but still got access to another base, you can STILL WIN THE GAME.

Okay, you play on hard. There are 7 bases, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, 1 beaing staging base, 7 alien main base. You have taken 1,2,3,4, but aliens come in and take base 2. Now, 1 is away from base 3 and 4, so even though you still have your staging base, you can't transport (transportatio on Mars is like on Earth, it will take time to deliver, but will require nothing. They won't ask how this happens. Just no.) stuff to your 3rd or 4th base. You can still transport freely between base 3 or 4, and if you regain base 2, you can continue supplying things from Earth to base 4. If you lose your staging area, no problem If you are almost at the goal, or are using lasers that doesn't need ammo, and your men don't die constantly. If not, then just reassault the main base.

If not, then you just won't be able to get resources to your base, so you would need to use the same team of units. This is ideal, to move the defenders of all your bases to your new base, to make progress that way. Just remember to bring plenty of ammo ;)
