I was wondering whether there could be a sound effect for a laser charging up: sort of a low-pitched hum rising in frequency, then followed by the laser-firing sound.

The reason why I'm asking is because in the creative texts, lasers have to charge briefly before firing, which is why they're slightly less accurate than conventional guns. Plus, it would be kind of neat to hear, imho.

If this has already been integrated into the current laser sound effect, please ignore this post.

Light in itself it's not noisy, so I guess nothing else besides the charging noise

Yes light is silent, but very hot air not. Shoting laser should warm air which should make a "bang" noise (something like thunder )

Air absorbs very little light and it will heat very slowly. I don't think it will make a thunder noise, but if you have the sound ready...

To be honest, I was thinking lasers in terms of sci-fi fantasy terms: you know, Star Wars and Star Trek and the like. I know lasers in real life probably won't make a sound, but imho, that would be boring. What ever is decided upon in the end, I'll be ok with, but personally, in this case, it's an inconsistency I'd be willing to overlook.

well, you could always argue that what the player hears is basically the stuff picked up by the soldier's microphones, and the laser beam ionizes the air and causes a kind of static... just not white noise, but some kind of sound, because of ion resonance to the polarized beam or whatever. (forgive my technobabble )

If that's so, the discharge of thousands of volts through the diamond laser core should be like a thunder in the soldier's headphones, much stronger than a faint air ionization
