Hi.

Because i work

in graphic design i

can give assistance on

some graphic issues

regarding your wonderfull

"add-on" ufo 2000.

You made an old dream

come true...

Desregarding that i

would like to leave

some sugestions

( more like questions

really ), about the

future of your work...

1 - Put an option of music on,off

and more of them

2 - Put sound Tiles to give ambience

( like you enter a house and hear

the TV - "The Aliens are comingg!!",

and if the house is destroyed your

would hear the equivalent )

3 - Floor destruction related

( if the floor 1 is destroyed the

others would collapse )

4 - Night day cicle

( remember those dark nights ?

flares of course, if the game tooks

x turns it would change to night or

day depending ... this would be made

by choise ... )

5 - If a soldier drops from the 1 floor to the

ground, it would make damage

6 - Sounds materials

( if you blow up a wall you should hear

its effects, diferent material, diferent sound )

7 - Put the explosion animation on the game

8 - Pleaseeee, finish the multiplayer campaign

Thanks for the attention

9 - Put the choise of spectating others games

( like when the servers is full )

10 - The option of recording the games to

Players to trade

11- Finish all those things for tomorrow

because i wanna play NOWWWW!!!!

12 - Just joking

Please visit our bugs and tasks tracker at http://ufo2000.lxnt.info/mantis/

Some of your suggestions have already been reported, for example:

http://ufo2000.lxnt.info/mantis/view.php?id=29

http://ufo2000.lxnt.info/mantis/view.php?id=199

http://ufo2000.lxnt.info/mantis/view.php?id=186

http://ufo2000.lxnt.info/mantis/view.php?id=213

You can register your account at the bugtracker and submit all the suggestions which are really new (avoiding submitting duplicates if possible). Also you can add your comments to the existing bugreports/suggestions. When posting suggestion, do not combine lots of unrelated stuff in a single issue report, beter submit many issues. So they can be assigned to different developers and worked on independently.

Music volume can be changed by using '+'/'-' keys on keypad, you can completely turn off the music by reducing its volume to minimum. Animations for explosions are already done in the latest beta version. You can download the latest beta versions here: http://ufo2000.lxnt.info/pmwiki/index.php/...elopmentVersion

And the most important :) Yes, we do need graphics designers, see http://ufo2000.lxnt.info/mantis/view.php?id=181 (not all the tasks are listed there, for example we also can use new background pictures, unit images for inventory screen, in general, it is better to have replacement for everything taken from x-com). Nappes already makes excellent progress with terrain tilesets, see http://ufo2000.lxnt.info/mantis/view.php?id=182 But with more hands available, making free and redistributable graphics will be much faster. And also we can experiment and make something new and even better looking, x-com is great, but we can try to improve it at least ;)

post-1387-1110642844_thumb.jpgpost-1387-1110642869_thumb.jpgAlready began making an introduction to the main concept.

I believe that the logo needs some changes.

the main menu could be animated and here are some

concepts, some crossmix between ww2 and xcom 1,

with a more rude looking...

Tell me what you think...

Basicly thats my offer to your

excelent game, to do a graphic

lift up, to became a "visual game"

diferent from xcom, to gain independence

from its claws...

I will do more research and make

a small simulation of the menus,

in flash latter on, but first

the "realistic-ufo-documentary"

must be complete, and sounds more appealing

and addictive.

thanks

Already completed the ufo theme research,

and i am working on the graphics menu.

It could work both for the game menu,

and for the site.

If the UFO team has the will power

and server space, i could do the web site,

in flash mx 2004.

My email is :

I am interested in your project,

and if my talent is solid enough,

please let me know.

Thanks

Developers are reading this forum too from time to time. These forums are not too active just because, we don't have that much free time for chit chat :) In fact I'm quite busy at my day job and try to spend all the spare time I have remaining for UFO2000 for coding. These forums (ufo2000 section) primarily exist for gamers, not developers. Developers and the people interested in development news are subscribed to ufo2000 mailing list. You can browse mailing list archives before subscribing to see what happened recently.

As for the pictures. I don't want to disappoint you, but the first priority is replacing x-com artwork not creating something new. The pictures look great though :)

There is also one technical difficulty - with more artwork added, the installer of the game becomes bigger and it is harder to upload/download it with each new release. And considering beta releases frequency, it becomes an annoyance. For this reason music is not included in beta releases (otherwise the installer would grow from 2MB to 3.5MB).

But I don't mind having some artwork for the webpage and starting to make some kind of ufo2000paedia :)

Well, thanks for the answer, and the sugestions are realistic and good enough for me !!! I also have little time because of real life demandings...but the artwork and ufo2000paedia are nice ideias to start with. If would be OK, i will work on a fictional site regarding the presentation of the ufo2000 enhanced visuals, and give the URL when itself has quality enough for the fans of xcom out there...such as myself of course regarding that i became addicted to it since the first version came out...I am editing some video footage to the main menu and its amazing to study all the material that comes over the internet ( Are they here ???? Do they play UFO2000 also ???? ), and has i sayd it points out to a crossmix between realistic documentary,Ufo Paranoia and WW2.From time to time i will post

images even before the "site" itself could be online, soo i would appreciate

comments and even trade material for the good cause...

Thanks again

for the keyframe of the site, and worked

the first animation for the entrance...

Of course the weight is high, i havent

optimized nothing yet, soo tomorrow

ill post the images of it for you ppl to comment...

How many music track there is ?

I must download them to bring

the atmosphere right !

I would prefer the first

music to be suspencefull,

or can i just use the classic one?

Where can i get it, by the way, in mp3 or wav

format ? And the sound effects also?

thanks

See you guys tomorrow

You can get good quality .mp3's of the original UFO Defense soundtrack (ripped from PSX) from www.xcomufo.com. Hover your cursor on "UFO", then find "Music". Right click & save as to save them to your HD in a location of your choosing.

The main ideia is to have the logo animation apearing from beneath the moon.

These animations are seperate by now, and the logo needs some touches also,

but the main ideia is there. Does someone has the sound effects in wav or mp3 format ? The site mechanics is well thinked by now, but the animations take

time to complete. After this is done ( the intro design language ) i will focus

on the ufo2000paedia, where the dificulty will be in mixing the cartoon sprite look of XCOM 1 with the "old documentary" language ...

Please post your opinions, they are important to my mental sanity...

Thanks

The main ideia is to have the logo animation apearing from beneath the moon.

Well I liked it but it is too short. :) Or, in better words, the music and images build a lot of tension during those seconds but there's nothing to wait for.

I think it's because of the music: i kept waiting for the change in the rhythm that happens when the red Muton screaming on the original X-COM intro and it starts showing a terror attack.

It isn't easy to figure out that you are looking at the Moon at the beginning because of the low resolution. I think you should keep Earth appearing because it helps to identify the scene.

This brings me to another idea: when Earth appears the original score should go until the time where the music rhythm goes up. At that point could the screen zoom into Earth and show a few seconds of a game replay? (with lots of explosions, shots and units dying?) It would be very fast and at the end the UFO2000 logo would show up.

You are right about the mislink between music and image, they must be build

together, you are right, and thats the plan.I am mixing the earth and moon, with the logo, at the same time, and the suspance is to the logo to reveal itself.

About the sound effects they exist in a wav or mp3 format somewhere in the internet ? I have two replays that ill use for the intro with alots of explosions, fire, smoke and death...By the way, the low resolution is on purpose for showing

the "old Design" of XCOM 1.

Keep giving me feedback, its important.

Thanks

you can get the sounds by opening the SAMPLE*.CAT files (in UFO2000\XCOM\SOUND) with Adobe Audition or Soundforge or something.

or if you don't have such a program, i can get them in WAV files for you.

SupSuper, if you could email me the sound effects in Wav format,

it would be quite helpfull ! Meanwhile i updated the site, but

beware, the material is RAW, and Heavy !!! Be patiente to open

the page because nothing is fully optimized !!!

But i am getting close to the concept, and its getting good!

The next step is to edit more video to insert, and to start

filling the information in, like animated buttons, etc...

And the new URL is ( keep in mind that its the on-working one ... )

http://pwp.netcabo.pt/0649287001/ufo2000/index.html

Keep me posted about opinions or anything,

Thanks

For now i reworked the games footage,

and its better paced now, but i need the

WAV or MP3 sound effects ( like shooting,

screaming, etc ... ), can someone email me

those files today, or tell me where i can

download them on the net?

Thanks

Thanks SupSuper, the sounds will be very usefull to ilustrate the intro;

I also will use "soundscape" sounds ( like sound tiles in game ) to ilustrate the diferent cenarios. Began working on the funcionality of the site, and, as hobbes

sayd, its getting better every day.

Soo today i must fix some problems with reverse video, and flash transparent movies ( in this one, the browser dont recognize the transparency...yet... )...

Thanks

Added the sound to the intro,

and worked on the main menu

functions, and of course, for graphic

and funcionality reasons, the text

from the html site

will be a bit diferent also...

I am uploading it now,

but remember that its

work in progress.

Send me good replays

from the beta in diferent

cenarios for me to edit

( and lear the weaknesses

of my enemies ... ) and

post on the site aswell.

By the way, does

vehicles, besides tanqs,

like jeeps, planes, that

can carry soldiers, and

do resuplies ( in bigger maps

of course ... ) are thinked yet?

Please post opinions,

Thanks

And i had an ideia on making the site more fun...

Can someone help me making a swf flash game with

the characters of xcom ? Like a "simple" one, remembering

the old 48k games, like 6 soldiers that you can control over a map

filled with aliens that hunt you and kill you.

Just a crazy ideia...

Keep seending me opinions,

thanks

The site Design is in a good "trajectory"...

...soo nobody emails me replays hein??!

If the Developers are somewhere in deep

space, what do they think about putting

a chooise on ACTIVE MORALE,like the

time counter is depending on your morale.

The less morale the soldiers have, the faster

the turn time will last.

And how about sound tiles?

And smoke duration diferent depending

on materials?

And...

...thats enouf for today...

Good night

More progress made, and the main core of the site is done.

The main concept is getting close to my original ideia,

just needs some work on the "final design".

Please post opinions and sugestions, and replays....

creation gets a "new virtual home"...

Latter on i will help on the game menus ( dont know

if flash is enough ... ) but you need to give me a

hand on that...Its time go get working now...

Already got a good picture on how the menus will be,

maybe a texture on top of grey tone, dont know yet

( i will try to upload it tonight but i am having

some troubles, but remember that the files are

heavy, nothing optimized yet, i am testing it

the same time i am working on it ... )

Please send me feedback, opinions, etc...

I got a wonderfull ideia regarding the Massive Multiplayer Game,

and for suspanse i will post in the site the gameplay concepts

that i am thinking about...

The slogan will be something like this :

" 22 species, 12 planets, TOTAL WAR "

"WHO WILL CONQUER THE UNIVERSE ? "

something like that

i must lunch now....alien food...

Link to comment

why not each species has its own planet ?

Much more interesting, imagine your own

planet ( defend, managment, research,ect ),

making alliances with other races to have

diferent aliens on same team ( interaction, betrail ),

conquering another planet ( the chysalid planet, the

snakeman planet, the human planet, etc )...

It sounds more interesting to me...

Of course each one has his own race, weapons,

energy source, research mix between species, etc...

I am crazy here ??!?!?

I am crazy here ??!?!?

Not at all...that sounds like a need for multiplayer action!

This is my favorite suggestion on multiplay. I know i would want to

be the ethereals. Tame the chysalids and sick them on my foes. :D

I made a pulse phaser, heavy phaser, and PF grenade (Proximity Fusion), maybe they can be alien items...

And why not use the concept of xcom 3 ?

Dimensional gates ( besides thats the latest

"explanation" for UFOS nowdays ... ) ...

first every race on each planet had to research

the tecnology to dimensional travel, and them

ATTACK KILLL KILL KILL THEM ALL !!!!!

And take the planet,of course...

This would make the concept much more

appeling, rather than submarines...

When a player went offline, the Dimensional

Gate closes...

the winner would have to conquer

all planets ( like a 12 players match,

each with his race-planet-dimension ).

The most interesting part would be

reseaching a "translator" tecnology,

to make alliances with other dimensions,

and trade, mix tecnology, betrail your

foes, ect.

I will post this in the proper forum,

when i make the graphic explanation

for it...
