XCOMUFO & Xenocide

Recommended Posts

While playing apoc one day and blasting buildings down in shopping mall, I beginned to wonder that is it possible to get that cool little thing in xenocide? I mean that if you fire a rocket in a ground level of a building, the upper levels comes down with huge explosions? I never have liked much about apoc but that's something I have allways loved about it. No need to shoot upper levels of building, just blast the ground level and the rest of the building comes down.

If someone still wonders what I mean, heres an example. In enemy unknown if you shoot a building with a blaster launcher, the upper levels just floats above?! Theres nothing to keep the building up but there it hangs and thats a little bit goofy.

Perhaps X-Com should have to pay to rebuild any buildings that they destroy ;)

i end up in debt!!!!! :P

never leave anything standing specially in a terror site :bash:

but then again it could make the game more interesting :devillaugh:

Why dont aliens ever go for landmarks, or other well know places, and no Im not talking about tourist spots, even though we know all aliens love to walk the beaches. Why dont they attack U.N. buildings, World banks, or goverment headquarters, and please dont make it a patriotic game where all they attack is america, use the Kremlin or other Parlaments.

:) well it just seems like there some lazy people here that want to knock down the supports to a building instead of go up and hunt the aliens floor by floor. Seems like the game would become too easy if you can just knock down the supports and suffer no consequences :) I'd also make it so the game would have alot of civilians in the upper levels as another penelty then too. One minor goals is to make the game harder than 1 but easier than 2 :)

Why should it be easier than TFTD?! I love playing impossible games :cussing:

I don't know how many times I have tryed but still not been even close to victory in superhuman.

Heh, Gangsta that was my idea :) Paying for building damage.

I don't think that we should restrict the player by disallowing buildings dropping. That just smacks of the developer is restricting something to make it artificially hard and it's something I hate when I'm playing a game.

If it's possible we should put in the ability to destroy buildings which would collapse killing all the aliens inside and all the civillians like you say. Freedom for the player is one of the biggest draws of Xcom.

However buildings will always (I mean always) have at least 4 civvies in them. Make at least 2 children. Go on then use that blaster bomb on that building knowing there will be kids in there. Instead of dropping the score for each building/ civvy killed the government firstly drops their funding by a set amount and if the player continues to destroy buildings and kill civvies in that country again the government pulls out of funding. Too harsh? Look what America's response to 9/11 was.

I have always been fond of blowing the barns to smitherings. I would have to advovate the idea of the ability of total destruction of buildings, but, sadly, it would be too much work.

Soldiers destroying a city more so than the aliens would cause them to terrorize the city. People would see that the soldiers care more about killing Xenos than they care about their saftey or their livelyhood. That's why you should suffer a severe penelty for knocking down the supports of a building. That is something the aliens would do. Honestly what is the purpose of sending a squad to a terror zone if they will cause more damage than the aliens would have by not having a single building left standing when they leave. :) It took years to develope that area afterall

I'd imagine X-COM is completely neutral and doesn't get into petty earth-based squabbles among nations.

I think I did read that countries that you take care of relatively well might not increase funding, because of internal strife, war, financial problems, among other things. I don't think they will decrease funding if you are doing a good job.

Also, I don't think the idea of saving buildings, etc. should be that big a deal. The aliens will kill people, whereas my soldiers will try to save people, at all costs. Buildings be damned. Human life is more precious than property. And if they are going to whine about property damage, I'll pay for it, but I doubt I'm going to be able to make it to that next terror site. That might be extortion, but maybe not, after all If I'm flat broke from paying off the bills, I can't get my Skyranger in the air, which = no troops on the ground outside of my base. Sos I suggest yous not charge me for property damage, or my boys might get a little trigger-happy.

Anyone here blown up a staircase? That really sucks. There ought to be a way to kill the aliens upstairs after destroying the stairs. I'm thinking there could be two soldiers on the ground floor, and one helps the other up, taking up lots of TU's though.

Knocking down buildings would be yet another thing to worry about. I think there's plenty to worry about on missions, as is. Of course, it might open up new tactical possiblities. That's always good.

They should, and it wouldn't be that hard either. Have each major city include it's landmark in it (Paris has the Eifel Tower, etc). Minor cities ("Wellington, New Zealand? Where?!?!") would just look like Anytown...

On another note, I agree that destroying buildings would be a good idea, but I also think there should be some kind of penelty for blowing up every building on the map. Perhaps a point deduction? Or maybe if you blew up every building, the mission would end with a "City Destroyed" messege and the aliens would get double the points they would for a sucessful terror mission, or something. I dunno. I'm tired. Sleep is good...

I don't think you should lose points, simply because it is so hard with the weapons you have. In a real urban operation, there is usually only a little bit of damage to buildings, usually caused by grenades or a rocket or 2. In xcom you have lasers and plasma weapons that slice through buildings like cheese, making it FAR FAR FAR too difficult to destroy them. Its a double edged sword, being able to shoot through stuff so easily

I think that Explosions that are in 3 dimensions instead of 1 would suit the game well, and i believe those will be added
