X-Commandos, an X-Com inspired top-down strategy game

Hi there,

 

I would like to bring attention to a 'little' project I have been working on since May this year. It's called X-Commandos, and it's an X-Com inspired top-down strategy game for iPhone. Below are some screenshots and a few short movies that show a small bit of gameplay. The full game will feature plenty of missions, lots of weapons and body implants, research tree, etc. etc. I expect it to be ready at the end of Q1 2010, but we all know how deadlines work. ;)

I have some suggestions and questions.

 

Weapons

 

Am I right that automatic fire from M16 in-game is simply 3 sequential single shots? Does not look right, if it is true.

 

M41A pulse rifle on images has no conventional sights and no buttstock. How can it be accurate? It is also looks fragile and unsuitable for melee, therefore it will not be best companion of a soldier. And I did not notice comfortable trigger on this weapon. So I suggest to redesign that weapon.

 

If the weapons are pictured strictly horizontal, it will add some "attention-to-details" flavor to the game.

 

Movement

 

It will be nice to see a path of movement after first click.

 

Questions

 

How can one check line of sight? Can units fire over vehicles? Will grenades be implemented? Will soldiers have different statistics like firing accuracy and health?

Thank you for your comments. :) I have answered your questions below.

 

- Auto fire is indeed three sequential shots. I'm tempted to put in a 'true' auto fire animation, but at the moment this would be a 'nice-to-have' for me.

- M41A model could use an overhaul. ;)

- Path-of-movement showing the legal moves will be in.

- At the moment, units can not fire over vehicles, though it should be possible with grenades and similar.

- Grenades will be in.

- Soldiers will have different stats which affect their action points, health points, accuracy, intelligence, etc.
