Works fine under XP, but then asks for CD in mid-game

XP system and Dosbox, with a Dosbox config someone wrote for running APOC. The CD is an ISO-file on a virtual drive. Simple to install and it worked very well for about two game weeks. Lots of fun. Then suddenly, when launching a tactical mission (a shot-down UFO), the game asked for the CD. The ISO was already loaded in the virtual drive and I had played for hours during this session.

I tried CTRL-F4 in Dosbox, reloaded the ISO, nothing helped. It didn't recognize the CD. The UFO was of a type I've fought in before, so the map data should be OK.

I loaded a savegame, but it happened again the next day. Again a shot-down UFO.

I've googled this error for a while, but it seems to be unusual. Any ideas?

Maybe the original CD is a multi-session one which has music tracks that are not that compatible with the iso.

Can you try to make the CD into a cue/bin combo and load the cue in Dosbox with imgmount?

If you don't have the CD anymore (you had it and lost it maybe) you probably can move the save files into

another version of APOC that doesn't uses the CD at all

Check the Steam forums: the virtual CD-ROM is a bit flaky as a minimal install in DOSBox.
