Troop Carriers Loaded With Soldiers

Recommended Posts

In the previous Xcom games, you could take down a battleship with an Avenger, and then win the ground fight with the troops in it, even if it got nearly destroyed. IMHO there should be a risk in using your carriers to take down ships: if your craft gets damaged any troops in it may get wounded/die, to reflect the damage done by those alien plasma cannons.

At least, that would make sense. Don't know if it will be that fun at all to play it this way... Edited by j'ordos
Not fun at all :P plus it would be straying a bit from the basic mechanics of UFO Defense, which we are trying not to do unless it is necessary.
I know, it's just some inconcistency I noticed lately... and I was thinking: let's share this discovery with the world ;)

Well, say that the troops are well enough protected so they don't get hurt. U could have the avenger with damage tho like the UFO's get when they are shot down. That would look cool, 2 see the smoke and that pouring off as u get off.

Yes, but if you start killing soldiers based on air combat that might be a pain. I guess it would make people think again about using them, but it would defeat the point of a fighter/transporter combo.

You should read up on Desert One, the operation to save the Iran Hostages, if you want to know about the realistic behavior of elite soldiers after a transport is damaged and the soldiers evacuate to continue the mission.

Personally, I think the best thing to do is to leave the X-Com method intact. Maybe you could add the smoke and flames (or even have your team unable to evacuate until another transport arrives) but in reality, people in transports just don't function well after their aircraft is shot up for some reason so unless we are willing to go all the way with this, I think true realism is not the ideal to be sought out here.

Thats what I was tryin 2 say. No point damaging troops ( prehaps an effect on morale tho? ) but a damaged avenger would look pretty cool in battlescape.

I think in this case, we should leave realism out of the game play. It would just wouldn't be the same to find your top soldier dead ( or throwing up) before a mission even began.

I like the idea of the avenger smoked up and dented here and there. gives you the feeling of real combat.

No no, i did not mean that and I dont think Warhamster did either. IT would be a real pain to arrive at the battle and already have dead/paniced soldiers.

Damage to the transport would be nice, and im not sure adding some initial smoke to the battlescape would be any worse than it is after a few blaster bombs/some grenades/a maniac with Incindiary ammo.

It would create some atmosphere. :D

If time permits, someone could make a damaged texture that perhaps could load when the transport has taken over X% damage. Same goes for craft in the hangars being repaired, aliens attack the base and the texture loads there too.
