I remember when I was a kid playing this game....at about the age of 10 -12 and I absolutly hated the night time battles, I couldnt see a thing and those flares where so crap at discovering the map :(, then suddenly u see a little bolt of plasma hit your brave squaddie and no1 has any idea wher it came from!.

 

How about adding a "Night Vision" option to be researched and used so those night battles arnt such a pain

actually, in a different topic on here i had an idea on discussing 'Light weapons' that would temporarily blind or at least screw up the pupils of anyone near a flare or IC round explosion... NVGs would be cool, and they could add a new level to the light weapons, like making you either deal with not being able to see anything (the NVGs would show a huge white blob) or not being able to see much (your pupils expand)

NVGs are pretty much integrated into any advanced infantry gear in modern armies. Filter adjustments and blobs are a very good idea, even with no NVG present. Your eyes take a minute to adjust from heavy flashes and such. Not sure about aliens, but I am sure it is psiologically dependant.

I hate night battles too, which was why I always bring some light pods in the Transport. When the transport reach destination and it was the dark side of globe, I equip one or two pods for each soldier and at the very start of the game, throw as much as possible to light up the map. Not very effective compared to NVG, but then what's the point of having day and night battles if it's so easy to solve?
