Help! The game won't start at all and this is the error in the Engine Report.txt, the other .txt file is empty. I try to start the game and the display goes plank for a moment and then the desktop reappears. I have a P4 2.0 GHz w/ 640 MB RAM and a Nvidia Geforce 2 MX/MX400. I'm also using Windows XP. I also just downloaded the latest driver from Nvidia. Screenies look good though.

What version of DirectX are you using? The base that came with XP, or 9? Give 9 a go if you haven't already, and also try turning off any graphical enhancements you may have turned on in the GeForce control panel in Display Properties. If you've overclocked your card, try clocking it down again.

Ok, its working now. And al i have to say is WOW. It is INTESNSE !

Very cool anyway, to get it working (see my problem above), download the lateest drivers. I thought that i had the latest drivers before, but as it turned out, i didnt. Also make sure the drivers you use are not the WHQL certified, as microsoft is full of shyt, and it will nto harm your computer. Like i said my video card is a Nvidia Everything, that is it contains the GeForce2 MX 400 chip. Download the specific latest drivers for your OS. make sure its for your SPECIFIC OS ! I think the drivers i had before are what were carried over from my WIN98 when I upgraded to WinXp

-CC

Hope that helps....

This has got to one of the biggest problems facing the alpha testers...the Drivers...I had the exact same problem w/ my NVIDIA card...it turns out I was using the Microsoft approved version and it would not work w/ Xenocide...then I tried the version that my Video Cards Manufacturerer (MSI) releases and they also didn't work...then I went to www.nvidia.com, downloaded their latest driver and everything works perfectly...anyone having problems w/ Xenocide not starting should try to upgrade video drivers right away...

I have the same engine report as the first post in this thread and it won't start.
I have:
Intel® 82845G/GL Graphics Controller
I got recent drivers for the card today from Intel
Windows XP
2 Ghz Celeron
128 Ram(I think)

Any suggestions?

I havent heard of Intel video cards moving to the programmable vertex and fragment front, so it is unlikely that they support those advanced features...

You said it all, a GeForce 4 MX 440 Chipset, with AGP 8X, 64MB... If you are going to buy it, i suggest to change the motherboard if it doesnt support AGP 8X. Take in mind that the MX Chipsets is the low end of NVidia (lowest now), if you are serious about buying a graphic card (and have the money) go to a Radeon 9100 AGP 8X or a NVidia GeForce 4 Ti 4200. Radeon is a little less fast than GF4 Ti, but it is a good choice because of its reduced price... for prices check at Pricewatch. If you are asking because of you want to know if Xenocide will support it, the aswear is yes (now) who knows in 2 years from now... If you have any question just drop me a PM...

Being another person who can't seem to run Xenocide because of his card. Is there any chance the programmers are planning on somehow spreading over this certain boundry because thats a pretty powerful card to have, and not everyone has the Geforce 2 or higher.

We should point out a few things to you. First of all, the geforce4 may be a powerful and expensive card, but the geforce2 is not. You can buy a geforce2 mx400 32mb for $28 right now (after shipping). Second, the geforce2 line of card has been around for a couple of years already. Third, we are hopeing to finish Xenocide around the end of 2004, which means that the geforce2 will be even older and cheaper and you can probably get a geforce4 for $20.
