cyranodeventura
I downloaded the most recent build, .NET Framework, and that redistribute one. I didn't download direct x because I already have it. I launch the game and get this "error has occurred" note. Exception: The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)StackTrace: at ProjectXenocide.Program.CheckGraphicsHardware() at ProjectXenocide.Program.Main() in D:\Xenocide Repository\XNA\trunk\Xenocide\Source\Program.cs:line 47 I have no idea what that is or how to fix it. Darkhomb
Just because you have DX 9.0c doesn't mean you have the newest version of it. Go to microsoft.com/directx and download the latest. Also what video card do you have?
red knight
That looks like an unsupported video card (not Shader 1.1) or an outdated/windows provided graphics card driver. GreetingsRed Knight

GreetingsRed KnightNot v 1.1 shader should be intercepted. So I guess it is either the driver, or directX

Did you try our installer? It checks automatically for the needed prerequisites. Where did you get your directX version from? If it is from a game, it might not contain all the needed files. The directX downloaded by our installer will be complete. Do you have the XNA 1.0 refresh runtime environment installed? The installer will check for this as well. [Mad]
He provided this dxdiag output, I went through it, but can't find anything problematic. Could it be that this is a problem with the nForce2? Or maybe a language/font problem (he uses the russian version of directX)? [Mad]
Doesn't the game create any logs in the installation folder?Yes, it does, if it is started. I asked him for the CEGUI.log, but I didn't receive an answer yet. And that only helps if the game is started in any way, not if the problem lies within the XNA Framework. We'll see... Edit: He answered. It seems he does not have a CEGUI.log. So where's the problem then? Edited May 3, 2008 by Mad

[dteviot]
Is there noone that has an idea what is going on?Sorry, no idea "it won't launch" isn't very helpful. One thing he might try is downloading a different XNA game (say try Ziggyware http://ziggyware.com) and see if it works.Note, be careful and check which version of XNA it requires. Alle the prerequesites have been installed. But thanks for the link, I'll forward it.
[Mad]
Interesting. kafros
The prerequisites seems fine. The program stops at "CheckGraphicsHardware()", so it's obvious it's related to your graphics card. But, it's a Radeon X1900XT, which is high-end and shouldn't cause any problems :S I can't help on that sorry, maybe someone else can, let's wait for their advice

Guest Azrael Strife
Then that's the answer, he's running under DirectX 10, which is unsupported.
Darkhomb
He doesn't know what he is talking about. Vista has broken off 9.0c and 10. It has both. For non direct x 10 items it uses its 9. It is impossible for him to use dx10 with Xenocide. edit - even though he has 10, he still needs to update 9 to the latest version. Guest Azrael Strife
Maybe someone should add in the downloads or FAQ that people need DirectX 9.0c and that DirectX10 is NOT enough? I know I'd be confused as well. Edit: The latest news entry is fiendishly deceiving, keep in mind people could be pissed off after testing and seeing it's a half-truth, which can be the worst kind of lie. Guest Azrael Strife
I believe the GeForce 5200 is not DirectX9.0c capable, what is the latest game you've been able to play? kafros
I just noticed that at the min-spec section we've set the FX 5200 Graphics card. That seems to be wrong, GeForce 6 Series is the minimum. BUT, I may be mistaken, because if that's true, we may have some trouble. According to wikipedia, the oldest ATI core that supports Direct3D 9.0c is the R520 one, introduced in 2005. That is, Radeon >=X1300!!R420, introduced in 2004 (includes the range X700-X850) seems to support DirectX 9.0b Has xenocide been tested to be working in such entry-level cards? If not, them the min-specs are quite high...Nevertheless, those cards seem to include Shader Model 2 support... Oh well, I'm confused In addition, the R200 core (ATI 8500-9250) support Direct3D 8.1 and Shader Model 1.4. So, they aren't really viable choices for Xenocide Edited June 21, 2008 by kafros
[Mad]
I tested Xenocide with an Fx5200, it works. Edit: the only important prerequisite is support for shaders v 2.0 - the Fx5200 does have that, so it works. Edited June 21, 2008 by Mad
Guest Azrael Strife
Hmm, why doesn't the installation log mention the XNA runtime? Stupid question, does the installer just check for "DirectX9.0c" or does it look for the latest version (Which I thought was August 2007, but the wikipedia says a newer one was released in June 2008)

Stupid question, does the installer just check for "DirectX9.0c" or does it look for the latest version (Which I thought was August 2007, but the wikipedia says a newer one was released in June 2008)It checks for the existence of two files, "d3dx9_32.dll" and "xinput1_3.dll". They were introduced in Dec 06 and Oct 06 respectively. Changes after that are either developer-related or DX10 related. kafros
Happy to hear it worked for you Then, could someone make the installer check for all dlls previous to "d3dx9_32.dll" and make add "d3dx9_33.dl" for good measure? Otherwise I'll do it after the end of the exam period.

kafros
a) This is an open source project, as long as a single member contributes, the project is being developed Well I corrected it now anyway. Concerning the DX test, it was a simple case of Wankerium Blindosis from my side. [geek_only]There were 2 problems with the script: First problem, 3 out of the 5 mirrors were bad . Hopefully I replaced one and now we have 3 working ones.Second problem, The previous test was:If this file exists, go to the next command, otherwise do nothing. If this file exists, go to the "the correct dx is installed"-part, otherwise go to the next command (that shows the according dialog) That's why it didn't work Now it checks for 7 files and if any of them is missing, execution moves to the correct part of the script.[/geek_only] I'm pretty confident that now it'll work as it's supposed to be @Mad:The attached file contains the changed files, would you mind compiling the new installed and updating the news? kafros
I always thought that game-dev was not supposed to be funny, at least not as funny as game design. But then, what's fun without challenge? So dteviot, why do you intend to continue developing Xenocide if you don't enjoy it? I am not able to contribute as much as you, dteviot, but would like to know where you were going and help you on the way there.I suggest having a look at http://svn.projectxenocide.com/xenocide/xn...s/ToDoList.html and http://www.xcomufo.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=242028636 and decide what you'd like to to. Then post a note on what you'd like to do, and any thoughts you have. And I'll respond with any suggestions I've got. So dteviot, why do you intend to continue developing Xenocide if you don't enjoy it?Because after spending 2.5 years on this, it seems a shame to abandon it when another 9 to 12 months would get it all working (with the exception of lack of content.) Although the better question is "why did I develop Xenocide if I don't enjoy it?"The answer is ego. The other develpers told me my ideas would not work. And I wanted to prove them wrong. Which I did. And they've all left. Which is really a Pyrrhic victory. Edited September 10, 2008 by dteviot

kafros
Aw well... Could you also have a look at the script? I may be missing something. Concerning the directx, we could check for the very latest directx version and:either ask the user to manually download and install it (open webpage)or automatically install and run, but ask for user interaction, in order to make sure that the installer really runs as it should. What do you think? Edited September 19, 2008 by kafros

The DirectX instalation should finish with an error code. if we could intercept it, we could be sure if it worked or not.... Anyway, I will have a look at the script. kafros
After some googling, I see contradicting views on the matter. But, it seems that directx9.0c can be updated without breaking the dx10 installation (why some people claim the opposite is above my understanding). So, just remove the vista check in the directx script, and maybe remove the auto-download/install feature all-together. We check ALL the needed files (maybe all related files before 2008, that'll be ~15-20 files), and if we notice that the user needs to update, a messagebox pops and warns him that he won't be able to play. He presses ok and the download page opens. End of our problems.
SupSuper
Vista's DirectX 10 doesn't include all the 9.0c's extra d3dx9_*.dll that got released during updates (and probably more), so you still have to install the latest DirectX 9.0c from the Microsoft Download Center to get them, and no it doesn't break anything.
