Well, I would be playing it if it wasn't gonna be delivered until Monday :cussing: I thought I might just ave a quick peek at the game by buying it and then taking it back when it arrives, that way I still save the £10 I get from pre-ordering, but no, none of the shops around me have it in stock. I don't think they are going to get it in stock either, they usually say quite clearly on the shop window what new games are coming out and this wasn't one of them. Hopefully this isn't an omen to it's sucesses ( or more importantly how good the game is ).

Hahahahahahahaha

I have the game in my sweaty paws at this minute. Must be big, it takes 2 DVD's :o

And about 20 mins to install :cussing: I'll boast more when I've actually played it.

My first impression: Eh.

It seems like a good game, but it is much harder to get into than UFO. The real time is sporadic, very methodical, pauses everywhere from walking to shooting which actually makes it a true hybrid of real time and turn based, just like they said :o

It's gonna take some getting used to but I get the feeling that it could well grow on me, not a lot of fun happening just yet.

The graphics for the cities are exactly what we should be aiming for in Xenocide, layout too just we should have some small buildings as well.

Unit responses annoyed me in the first 5 minutes so I took them off, music is so-so.

Obviously it doesn't compare to X-Com1 but when compared to Apoc ( as I think it should ) it is a big improvement I feel. Just gotta hang on in there I think, going to put a lot of new users off I think as well. Edited by Jim69

I know that feeling, I had that same feeling when playing C&C generals the first time. It's like kinda cool and you think u should like it but it just isn't the same old good stuff. I still don't like generals so I think I will have problems with aftermath too. If it isn't good and interesting right from the beginning, my mind ruins the rest of the game too.. ^_^

Depends what you want coming into it. Expect the new UFO then you will be disappointed, look for better implementation of idea's than Apoc and you have it right there with change. The more I play it is the more I like it, I had exactly this same feeling when I played Apocalypse and that turned out OK, I'd say this game has it's faults and things they could have done differently but overall it's a damn good game, a better effort than Apoc at the very least.

You didn't like generals? You should probably get zero hour then, it is extremely good. The story is better, and generals challenge rocks. I would pay just for the generals. :)

Anyway, back to aftermath, so it implements its ideas better than apoc huh? I loved apoc, so I think i'll love aftermath. (If it ever comes out in the us that is :()

The real time part of the game especially. You really have to play it to find out, it has it's own feel towards the game, probably because it is the opposite idea to X-Com games. Instead of constantly being on the defensive until the final game you are actually on the attack constantly. Refreshing I must say. If you go in with an open mind and expect to hate it then it will start to grow on you.

And remember that you can customice the system as you like. Don't want it to pause on injury? Then don't! I think the new system is a HUGE improvement from X-Com. But as you say, the game takes some time to get into...

Oh, and since I'm too lazy to write it again, you can read my first impressions here if you're interested: http://www.chatbear.com/board.plm?a=viewth...=2456&v=flatold Edited by Slaughter

Don't get carried away. It's an improvement on Apoc yes but it hasn't a shade on X-Com IMO, and until they drop the real time it never will. That's a different matter tho.

I prefer the customisation of Apoc where you could choose as the game goes on what you stop the game for rather than trawling thru the options manually ( I'm lazy too :) ). It's better than Apoc I'd say, go buy it if you liked Apoc you will really like this one I think.

Excellent. I can't wait! Urrgh! Why can't it get shipped to the us now! I have it on preorder, and I want it now! I don't think halo pc is going to abate my anti-alien hunger until then! (Especially since I have almost already beat it :))

So, do the mutants carry weapons?

I caught this flying thing with an M16 :o Bastard was picking off my guys from 40 yards away, since my troops only had shotguns it's quite hard :o

The troop thing is a joke, they are actually more despensable than UFO, every time you lose one you get another replacement free. Unlimited shotgun's and MP5's are gay too. Still, the actual game is tough as nails, at the start I just camp behind big rocks and cars otherwise I get taken out :crying:

I have in my hand the review of Aftermath by PCGAMER, and quotes such as:

does not live up to expectations

is not quite polished enough

isn't sophisticated enough

can be found.

I will try to scan in the review in question.

It has been given 74%
Some of the mutants are mutated humans, and thus carry human weapons. And don't worry Jim69, it gets better once you get a sniper rifle or two... ;)

And as Jim69 says, don't expect this to play like X-Com. It doesn't! But it's great IMO!
Just got RPG :naughty:

I wouldn't read too much into that review, they must have had quite high expectations. I'm quite the cynic and I must admit that it is fun, I don't agree with what is written there. If I had to give it a mark it would be close to 85% I think. Not the best thing since sliced bread but a damn lot better than the last 10 games I've brought this year.

Yes, no offence to pcgamer, but I find many of their reviews to be off the mark (in relation to my needs that is) I don't care too much about polish and they seem obssessed with it for example. So a game that they would think sucks, I might enjoy.

I had a dream that I recieved a copy of aftermath from finland! Isn't that wierd?

I know, you should have seen me when I first played it

After the trip to Area 51 I have come to the conclusion that this is the best strategy game I have played since X-Com 1. Well, maybe Starcraft butts in a little but only just :D Edited by Jim69

1. I don't know, they have these power cells but I've never managed to use one up.

2. I never stick around to find out

3. A heck of a lot. They hard to kill as well, bastards got some dodgy armour and a shield around them :o Area 51 musta provided me with about 10 Reto kills

Damn good game, the more I play it the more addicted I become

Was that the UK version of PC Gamer dipstick? If you want to see the scores from more reviews, take a look here: http://www.ufoaftermath.co.uk/?c=Reviews&p=Reviews

As you can see, most scores are better than 80%.

And there is a patch out for the UK version Jim! You can find it here: http://www.ufoaftermath.co.uk/?c=Patches&p=patches

Enjoy! I know I do!

Ok some more questions:

1. How does manufacturing work? I read something about it making unlimited clips or something. :hmmm:

2. How does biomass repulsion work (I mean, do they use flamethrowers on it or what?)

3. How much wood could a mutant woodchuck chuck if a mutant woodchuck could chuck wood? :D

Edit: For got the most important one
4: When is it coming out in the US?? I need to know! Edited by Cpl. Facehugger

1: You must first develop something to be able to manufacture it. And there are recuirements for developing stuff. Need those things to develop that and so on.

2: You have bases that take care of it. How I do not know.

3: One of the mutants have a large root in it's body, so I guess the answer is A LOT! ;)

4: Sorry, can't help you there. Best I can give you is this: http://www.avault.com/news/displaynews.asp...y=1032003-74925 (guess calling it best was not right)

:Gets out nuclear minigun: :also goes out to the barn to get the captured abductor, There is going to be a probing of the Tri Synergy staff tonight! The minigun is there incase they get unruly when my pet sectoids are getting their kicks :):

I hate incompentent publishers. The cd better work when it does arrive. If I get a CRC error or any other problem due to corrupted discs, I will go crazy and get out my special flamethrower: Mr. Sparkles. :D Edited by Cpl. Facehugger

Ah.. You've done it, you made me order it yesterday and it should arrive tomorrow or the day after that. I try to keep these in mind (it's not a x-com remake, it's not better than those, and I try not to have big expectations about it -as hard as it is-)

The manufacturing is annoying as heck, you can only produce one at a time and then have to specify the next one. So if you want 5 you make one, then when it's done go to the R&D screen to make another etc.

Heh, yeah mamutas.. The place where I ordered aftermath from, has problems delivering it for the next few days so by that excuse I canceled that order..
I have heard so much shuckeroonies about it for the last 12 hours and I thought it's better to wait until it costs as much as it's worth..

Well, for my part, I assume it was the sandwich.

I would buy aftermath even if the majority of reviews I have heard call it complete crap. On the level of Daikatana.

Most reviewers give it a solid 80+ and isn't that pretty good? :)
I just can't wait until fing trisynergy gets their act together and gives us yanks the game!

As for reviews, there are 12 known to us, and 9 are over 80%. You can see all scores here: http://www.ufoaftermath.co.uk/?c=Reviews&p=Reviews

What I mean, is that on some forums (such as the offical ones, and the ufoaftermath.co.uk ones) that even when using the armor that is supposed to boost psi resist, and having high psi and willpower stats doesn't really prevent mind control 8/10 times. Of course, these may be slanted opinions, but There seemed to be a lot of people who had this problem with psi.
