XCOMUFO & Xenocide

XcomUtil + Extender + Win XP + (d2d drive version(?))

I'm trying to find updated information on this. The things I'm reading here and other places says that this should work. So I am abit stumped as to why I am unable to run it.

I could list everything I have done to try making this setup work. But perhaps someone here can point me to a guide instead.

I believe the version i have now is 1.4 (as it says so in XcomUtil setup) and Direct 2 Drive version, bought this version a few years ago(2009 i think), so i'm not 100% sure.

I'm missing the "UFO Defence.exe" in my original install, and the "hacked one" floa...(nevermind starting to explain now..) It's a dosbox compilation atleast. with the dosbox.exe outside of the main game folder.

Back to subject:

Is there a guide for how to get these two mods working together somewhere that works for win XP ?

Thanks!

The Extender was designed to run the Windows executable, which is why it's asking for UFO Defense.exe. It won't run a Dos/Dosbox copy I'm afraid.

Okay, thank you!

So what version would I need for XcomUtil + Extender + Win XP?

Will this version need a patch before applying mods?

Could someone point me in the right direction? Perhaps to some abandoned ware site link. I've bought in total 3 different versions of UFO:Enemy Unknown since 94, so don't think that would be pirating. Right now I've only got this dosbox compilation at hand, from I believe d2d.

I will probably ask this later, so ill ask it now..

Install order of this setup with correct ufo defence version would be ::

Ufo > extender > xcomutils, right?

I would like features : possibility for window mode/alt tabbing, and sound that doesn't lag. This would require ".bat" file editing? does anyone have one ready?

Okay, I've got a UFO collectors edition version. Ran the game before tinkering and everything worked.

After installing XcomUtil (and ran it) and Extended i get an error upon running RunXcom.bat.

XCUSETUP has not been executed for this version of XCOMUTIL

Press any key to continue . . .

Having only XcomUtil installed i get same error.

The other UFO Defence exe, when running them alone gives error :Couldn't ReadProcessMemory (after running/installing xcomutil and extended)

:::: Now everything seems to be working on my old version. ::: except some mouse lag it's pretty good! :) :::

And i kinda lost all music somewhere along the way . is that normal, do I HAVE to get the music patch, can't get music without doing something?

(I believe i went into setup.exe and escaped out from it... but im not sure..) Managed to get some ugly roland music playing... :(

correct, you cannot get music ( other than .mid ) without special patch :)

if you want additional modifications beside music patch

I suggest AbraM's patch

if you want only music, you can try my own patch ^_^

it also includes music patch for terror from the deep!!

and more formats are supported ( .flac for example )

all other music patches that I found include additional modifications

so you have to choose, what suits your needs best

my own ( ufo + terror ):

AbraM's ( ufo only ):

and psx version music:

ps.

for slowdown I suggest 'cpugrab'

Then I will try yours tomorrow :)

::: sorry, seems that doesn't work with my install. It ran Enemy Unknown just fine, but my mods kinda disappeared :P

Need something that just brings back old music, without doing or interacting with anything else. :)

yes, they work :D

music patch is NOT a stand-alone program

you must copy correct executable to <xcom directory>

and run file '<xcom game>_ce_music_patch.exe' from there

music files must be placed in the same directory as <xcom>/sounds

http://ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=Saved_Game_Files

it is also windows Collectors Edition version of XCom ONLY!

it will NOT work with DOS version

mods ... hmm ... which mods?

if you mean music files in mod format

.xm, .mod, .st3, .it ... are supported ( I use every one of them! )

please verify the names of your music files

if you mean modifications of the game

than it should work, if the patched .exe is left alone

for example

I run it with alien voices patch ^_^

I also run it with terror sites graphics modified

everything that touches .exe file

potentially will not work

( it depends on what the modification changes )
