If Anyone Is Interested In A Bit Of Modding...

Hi everyone, after much help from the board I got my game to work in XP perfectly. I have the original 1997 cd with the worms on the cd, and I played it on a celeron 300 with windows 95 back in the day. And I'm telling you it's EXACTLY the same. Some may think the scrolling is choppy but that's how it was even back then. It's a design thing.

Anyway about a year ago I thought I'd change the game up a bit and replaced a lot of the sounds with counterstrike clips. I also used a host of public editors to modify the game to be a bit more... Realistic. The machine guns shoot a little quicker and have a bit more punch (those pesky government workers dont ever wear armor yet I pelt them with so many bullets they're swiss cheese).

I also unlocked a lot of the things the development team hid, like jail cells and weapons. Again using public editors. There's this awesome gun called the X-com disruptor rifle, unfortunately the code must be a bit buggy as at some points it does no damage at all! Also: the jail cell crashed the game upon a base invasion.

I stumbled upon some very intersting ufopedia entries as well, almost as intruiging as discovering new things through your in game scientists, LOL.

ANYWAY my point is if anyone is interested I'll release a sound mod and hopefully find a way to get into the code for the game (Second year computer science!). This board has gotten my game running in XP, I feel an urge to give back. Thanks for reading this far!

The X-Com Dimension Destabiliser does no damage. It does however do shield damage. Even if you carry four shields, two or three hits from the destabiliser will wipe them all out. Would've made a great replacement for the toxigun.

There are a lot of unused sound effects in the original game that sound better than what we've already got. There's a good alternate pistol sound clip for the law pistol, for example. The existing one just goes pt, pt, pt, pt! It's not terribly convincing, to tell the truth. ;)

I always wanted an X-Com replacement for that hairy dual nostral-cannon. Doesn't get much better than something with the name of "Dimension Destabilizer". Too bad it only does shield damage. Maybe there's something that can be done with overkill (cool weap editor).
