Cheshire
Anyone have any thoughts on the best strategy vs. dimension missiles? My thoughts: 1) Obvously, you want to keep the troops in each squad spread far enough apart that they can't all be hit by the same missile, but still close enough together that they can support each other, especially if brain suckers or poppers get too close. 2) Micromanagement helps. After one hit, move the guy who was hit behind something to recharge shields, and move someone else to point. If you have teleporters, it's even easier to swap your guys. 3) Once dimension missiles are common, those piles of dead aliens become literal minefields. Move past fallen aliens quickly, or not at all, or watch your guys die instantly when a dimension missile from left field sets off the 15 vortex bombs at their feet. 4) Two other possible strategies: Get close. Move your guys fairly close to chokepoints, but off to the side. That way, by the time an alien comes out and sees you, you're right on top of him. Cloak. Alternately, keep possition at sniping distance from the choke point, but cloak so that the aliens have to get close before they see you. [dipstick]
My strategy: run at them as fast as possible, and all weapons on auto. Job done That said, the missiles are a pain.
[Blehm 98]
Well, if you have devastators and entropy launchers and such, put on your shields, go to full auto, and charge at them on run. You weave around and when you get close use your power swords on themalso, if you have shields and cloaks, shoot them with an entropy launcher from afar and just watch as the dimension missiles cook.... [NKF]
Something else that helps is to wear a full suit of X-Com Disrupter armour. Not a partial suit - a full suit. This gives you a high level of immunity to dimension missiles if your shields fail - and they often will when dimension missiles are involved. They should at least let you survive any further missiles or poppers that might hit you while you're retreating to safety to acquire another shield. Try not to get hit by too many dimension missiles while your shields are down, as you can only hold out for as long as your armour durability holds. - NKF
[Blehm 98]
hmmmm, poppersthey really suck85% of my losses are due to poppers that either get unprepared soldiers or soldiers who are just recently injured in an explosion or are healing fatal wounds... Exo2000
Sidestep. Dimension missiles have a crap turn rate, and if you're close enough when you run at 90 degrees to the missile, it will get confused. It's possible for missiles to get completely and utterly confused and start going around in circles for ages.
