The Fellowship Of The Xenocide

There were 9 of them in the great fellowship of the ring. There are 9 of them in the great senior team of the Xenocide project.

So, lets compare them to see who is who here...

Red Knight = Gandalf (the leader)

Maverick = Sam (the one who keeps everyone in cold mind meaning the documentation work)

Stewart = Aragorn (he is a commander here, almost like a king. anyone wants to argue?)

Umm, anyone else?

P.S.: No offense here. All similarities to real life events here are just a coincedence. :)

. . . and who is Sauron and who is (oh crap I forget his name it's like saurimon, or something, you know the OTHER bad guy).

Ah, Sauruman the White. The head of all the wizards before Gandalf kicked his butt. Hiding in the White Tower, Isengard (or Isenguard sp?)

That is when he announced it, yes. But what I don't know is if he was many colors the whole time. I have to get my book back from a friend to check this but when gandalf was told to look closly at sarumans garment, I believe it said that it was made of many colors. This could be true. If you take a color wheel of the rainbow and spin it very fast, it appears white. The right amount of proportions could make it look white.

So he could have changed or he was the same and now just revealed. I don't remember anything in the Silmarlion about him.

Good to see a fellow LOTR fan :)

Now that you mention it I think you're right. It rings a bell that his garment was made of strands of many colours.

The thing I like best about LOTR and it's companion books is that it's clear that Wizards aren't human, even though they appear so and each race is so distinctive from each other. You really get the sense that middle earth really is a living breathing place that Tolkien went to, documented and came back and wrote about.

I did not know the wizards were not human until I read the silmarlion (which is probably the hardest of his books to keep reading) which covers the creation of middle earth up to the hobbit and the ring wars. He literally created another world, creatures, language, history, the detail of it impressed me so much that I could not put it down. Read all I could find.

Now I am working on Asimov's series in chronological order, I believe 16 books. Got like 5 more to go.

P.S. My screen name can be found in the LOTR index ^_^

Didn't Rudy play for Notre Dame :D No wait, the guy that played Rudy in the movie played Samwise Gamgee, so I guess Mav is a Hobbit.

I don't think I read I, Robot. I started with The Complete Robot. I am either on Foundation and Empire or Second Foundation. After Asimov, someone else wrote three books that continued the foundation series.

I think they were Pre-Foundation those 2 books.... The latest one (Foundation and Earth) is from Asimov too.... I recomend to read Prelude to Foundation and the other one after reading The Foundation Trilogy, then those two and later Foundation and Earth....

Silmarilion is very hard to read (specially in english), I had started it like 2 or 3 times and couldnt finish it...

Greetings

I had already read prelude, (it was the first one that got me hooked) then the newest by asimov before he died was after that but I can't remember the name of it, then the trilogy which I am almost done with.

Anyone read the Shannara books? I haven't read the new ones yet, but I read the first seven.

I don't know what it was about it, I just didn't get into it. However as a shameless plug I'm reading at the moment a lot of Heinlein, his stories are really engaging. The obvious one and a link to the project is Starship troopers which is good but for me so far the best one is Job: A comedy of Justice. Currently I'm reading my way through an old book I was given called Greek Myths. It details all the myths the interactions between gods and what relevance it has to the real world. All in all very cool stuff.

Hmmm, wouldn't RK be Frodo, as he's the one keeping things moving and finally completes the quest? I don't know that there's anyone big enough for me to play in the fellowship of 9. I use 2 swords in the SCA, I'm 6'6" and weigh about 240, not exactly hobbit proportions. Although halflings are my favorite race to play in D&D, as I've got their easy going nature. I need Conan oBrien to do a morph between Stryder and Frodo, I'd be the offspring! ^_^

Yesterday I played my first remote D&D game using speakfreely voice over IP. Worked fairly well considering the other end was using 56K and a mic built into the monitor which also had built in speakers. Nothing like hearing you constantly interrupting yourself...

How many main characters were in the Eye of the World series? I fit the role of Perrin Aybara very well there. That's another series of must-read fantasy books.

I guess I am more of hobbit proportions....5'8" and 155 lbs (especially compared to breunor). Though you should see me with a bow and arrow (seriously). I thought elves were supposed to be kinda short......so that could work too....

I'm reading all the discworld books in order, buying them as I go. They're a quick read though. I can get through one in a couple of hours.

I read Harry potter last week too. Nothing particularly original, though.Well written with a few nice twists, and the last one is quite funny.

I read a fair chunk of the S imlarillion but damn it's hard work. LOTR is much easier to plough through.

Hey Bruenor, I think out of the original 9, you would be the human from Gondor. He was a big guy. I can't remember the name :huh?:

EDIT: Boromir!!! Yeah that is his name.

I've not read the discworld books yet even though I've got them :) If you like Pratchett have a look for Tom Holt he's got a very similar sense of humour and he ties in lots of tech related stuff. Some that spring to mind are the computer system for omnipotent gods- The service manual says we wouldn't presume to tell you how to fix it.

In Snow White and the seven samurai, fantasy land is run by Mirrors 3.1 and buckets full of water are considered to be laptops. He never fails to make me giggle when I read his stuff.

Boromir would work, although I didn't care too much for the movie portrayal of him. I used to simulate his last battle in a sense. When I was in the boyscouts, we'd have wrestling matches, typically 5 on 1 with me being the 1. They'd surround me and try to take me down, occasionally they'd pull me down until I could get my limbs under me and stand back up, with several hanging on. :D Once a scout kicked me in the face when I was down, so I snaked an arm out and caught his leg, then wrestled myself out of the pile while clamped on to him. Once clear, I held him over the campfire by that foot until he apologized. The leaders caught me, and I almost dropped him in! They weren't exactly pleased with me... :devillaugh:

Heh, that sounds familiar. I used to have similar exepriences at school. Usually though I'd end up throwing people at walls as they wouldn't get the picture, my nickname at school was chewie or big wookie :D

I remember a similar experience when I worked at a nightclub, an initiation ceremony where 6 of the bouncers jumped me and tried their hardest to handcuff me to a post in the club. (The initiation was that you'd be cuffed all night while people were at the club) The six of them (and they weren't small guys either) tried to wrestle me to the ground giving me deadlegs and such and after about 20mins of struggling they gave up. It'd take 3 of them to pin one arm and by that time I'd have the other limbs free. :devillaugh:

What, you didn't waste your college years studying, did you Mamutas? :D

Our scout group became a bunch of thugs for a while. We'd go to camps and play capture the flag at night, it was just an excuse for beating up other scouts I think. I'm not a fan of fighting myself, so my size worked to my advantage. Nobody would fight me, reminded me of the opening scenes of Highlander, nobody would fight Connor. ^_^

I have been made out for traitor somewhere around here, by a person whose name shall not be uttered ( post-6-1058964752.gif ) , and the Ordos ARE insidious, so I'll take the ungrateful role of Saruman upon me...

That, or a Barrow Wight :naughty:

198cm, 6'6", about 250 pounds/113kg.

Had most of that size by 9th grade. It was funny, we were canoeing in Canada once and would stop on these little islands to camp along the way. They were really rough, and flat spots were limited. An adult and a scout found a good spot, but could move this fallen tree out of the way to get to it. So they gave up and found another spot. I walked over and picked up the tree, and threw it out of the way. Another time we were backpacking and a friend developed some nasty blisters from the pack, so I wrapped it around an arm and kept going as usual.

Of course, those are the good 'ole days, now that I've spent a couple years behind a desk doing little to nothing, I've noticed I'm not quite so capable. About a year ago I was pulling a tree out of the ground, and while heaving with all I had, I shifted just enough that I dislocated my pelvis, pretty nasty feeling... so now I begrudgingly take it easier. :crying:

These days I've been reading "Clifford: The Big Red Dog". On the other hand, that's because that's what the four-year-old has been requesting at bed-time. To be fair, though, it's a gripping tale about family being together when it counts. I find the book very compelling and immersive; if I may quote,

"I found some baby bears to play with.  Suddenly, I heard a loud growl.  Momma bear had come back.  Then we heard an even LOUDER growl.  Can you guess who it was?" (N. Bridwell © 1971)
